I still have my 70's Challenger (a '74 redone as a '71 RT) with the 440 ci 6-pack engine. Nothing sounds as good as a big block with a big cam :)
That’s no lie.
Even though a well built straight-piped 289 sounds phenomenal, you can get the same torque or thump that a built big block will produce.
I still remember the sound from my friend Geoff’s all aluminum 427 that he put in a 68 El Camino like it was yesterday. That car ruled the streets in Riverside for years.
I’m glad you still have that Challenger because none of this new stuff will ever be as cool.

I had a '67 Fury III I inherited from my dad. Lots of room under the hood to work on that 383.
May have mentioned this somewhere before, but I owned a Fury III for awhile (my brother and I shared it; '68 383 auto, 4-door, light blue) that we inherited from my great grandma when she passed in '94.

It was in great shape, but burned a bit of oil. My brother was terrible about checking the oil when he got gas, and ran it nearly dry which seized the engine. 🤬 Damn teenagers...

Ours was blue as well. My father called it the "Blue Streak". I liked it because the cops drove 'em. Ours was four door, Torque-Flite tranny, 2 barrel carb.

Lasted a lotta miles until a drunk driver t-boned me after dropping a buddy off at his apartment...and the cops couldn't believe that I was chasing the guy who did it on foot in a neighborhood they told me I had no business doing it in.

Went to the scrap yard the next day.
