That vacuum bag is a great idea / I thought sheaths were molded by hand ….
I have done a lot like that. This actually works a lot better than you'd think. One thing you want to do is get purely smooth plastic. Those checkered/reinforced bags will leave that pattern in your leather. Sometimes it looks pretty cool though. Idc much about this sheath.. it's holding a knife I regularly beat the hell out of. It lives in a shed.

They do need to be formed by hand. The blade portion of the sheath should not be wet formed or it will be way too tight and be a son of a gun to get the knife in and out.

Maybe when you did it. I've never had a problem... Especially if I leave the blade in the sheath like I showed.

It isn't too tight at all. No tighter than a Pirtle sheath. Literally playing with both sheaths as we speak. I do it by hand normally though. I was trying to knock it out quick so I could play with my kids.

the first couple wet molded sheaths I made were done like kydex- pressed with foam lining against a rigid backing. I'd leave it in there til all the water squeezed out and then take it out, take the knife out, and let it dry. I don't do it like that now, as it doesn't get me the result I want, but for quick and dirty, pressing or vacuum sealing works pretty good- if you're careful!

I’m glad it’s working out for you.

Vacuum sealing will definitely work, however, it’s not ideal for how I want my sheaths to end up.

I’ve also used a kydex press back at the beginning of my journey, Lorien. Like you, I don’t do it like that anymore.

I wouldn't do it to a sheath I make for someone. If I'm to assume your profile pic is your work. Then I would also assume we do things very similar normally. I usually do it the slow way though, and I do everything with hand tools. I usually form it by hand like you were describing when I make something nice.

One day I was thinking of grabbing up one of those hand crank machines Weaver sells, because sometimes saddle stitching just takes longer than I'd like. I'd also like a way to make stuff if the power grid ever goes down. I was just saying there are ways to use the sealer without it being "way too tight" if you're just throwing something together in a hurry. It can be made to look good too if you care enough to to do it.

Has anyone else ever had a cheese hangover?

I believe it's either the giantt plate of cheese curds and green olives with hot sauce I ate last night,or my robot fluids are low.

I'll try some ibuprofen.

I seriously hope It's not the second one.

I’ll let you know soon! We’re headed to tillamook cheese factory today 🤣🤣🤣

The profile picture is some of my work, yes.

You are correct in that you can make a great wet form sheath in a vaccum sealer if you take the time to prep it properly. It’s a little more work than I would normally want to do as I can get the same results by hand.

I didn’t mean to post to upset you. :/

Working leather is super fun!
