The Sykes-Fairbairn dagger thing is a cool project and all, but I’d hesitate to refer to anything you came up with as such, beyond being vaguely inspired by the concept. It’s my guess that your grasp of the tool, paired with the resources you have available to you in the form of machinery, materials, design software, and your overall unique sense of style and form, that would allow you to create something far, far superior.

It would be a mistake to liken something you came up with as an extension of that crude design. That’s not a slight on them, for the record - they were working with what they had. Which, I guess, is precisely my point - you’ll be working with what YOU have. That will surely include considerations from their design, but also a host of others, both ancient and modern.


Just my thoughts.
