I had a patient once, a young guy that had newly emigrated from Ghana. He came to the ER after a young woman that had welcomed him to America called to let him know that he would do well have some testing done.

A week before his visit to my triage room, he told his mother what had happened (which I thought was a surprising choice).

As he put it, "she made me eat cloves of raw garlic and whole fresh ginger roots until the dripping stopped!"

He still tested positive for gonorrhea though.

True story, I was invited to her wedding to Danny DeVito. (I was invited by a family member, another DeVito, who worked as an admin assistant at my first LE outfit in NYC.) I didn't attend as I didn't want to give her any ideas I was interested.
