Was it sick?

Largest ash tree you've ever seen

Over the house

Started dropping big limbs. It was just a matter of time before it dropped something really big on the house

It might have had the emerald Ash borer.

Sick tree too close to the house. Had to go.

I hate it. I used to could sit under that tree in the rain and stay dry it was so dense and tall.

Did you actually just fucking say ‘I used to could’?????

That tree was huge and awesome. I hate having to do stuff like that. I had a pair of trees similar to that in the front yard that had to come down because they were showing signs of stress, and were only 12 feet off the house. Totally changes the feel of the place, and there’s no way that the saplings I planted will ever come close to feeling that way, in my lifetime.

I was walking through the forest—not a park, but a real forest, like 4-5 miles deep into thick woods with trees.

I was hitting a tree, testing a new edge (that's how I justify the fact that I just enjoy chopping into wood with a blade).

Some couple walked by and said to me:

"You know you're hitting and destroying living trees, right?"

I replied:

"Isn't there a whole forest of them here? Like, almost endless."

They muttered something and walked off.

The funniest part is that on the access road, tons of people are literally cutting down the forest on an industrial scale just for themselves, but what bothered them was me, the guy just whacking a tree.

The people are old, and you'd think they should know that in the past, people literally used the forest to heat their homes...
