Had an uncle from the UK (dead ringer/doppelgänger for Marius Weyers from The Gods Must Be Crazy), who told us when we were kids, how him and his crazy friends in boarding school got bored and decided to try stopping ceiling fans with their heads.

“Nuh uh. No way”.

So he showed us. Stood on a tall chair, crouched beneath a ceiling fan, the stood up. Whack. Blade to the forehead. Only left a red mark, but no blood. We were impressed (never tried it).

Even funnier, for anyone who’s seen the movie mentioned; Uncle Roger actually used to say the “Ai yai yaiiiii…” bit, before that movie ever came out”. Our parents found it amusing when me and my brother started saying that anytime something went wrong 😂
Ai yah works much better, it fits about everything 👍

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago. I was walking in the woods with a rabbit that I had shot and I got surrounded by Coyotes. Like you, I had left my rifle behind. I had on my headlamp and I could see them when they would look at me and their eyes would reflect back but it was very disconcerting how they could simply disappear when they're standing 30 ft away from you in dark woods. I could hear them circle around me. I boogieed back to the house and now I stay strapped at all times.

The coyote I shot the other night seemed to show no fear. Jo had called my dog back inside and when I first saw it, it was close enough to the house I could have hit it with a rock. I didn't realize that it wasn't my dog because I didn't realize my dog had just gone in through the front door and I was still behind the house. I walked through the house to get out front to join what I thought was my dog but was greeted by my dog in the house. Meaning the thing I had seen through my thermal was the coyote and it was really close. When I stepped out front to find it again it had started moving off so I watched it for a while and the damn thing turned around and started coming back towards me. It got within about 50 yards and I could see pretty clearly that it was in fact a coyote and presented a good shot before I shot it. It had plenty of opportunity to get away. Little bastard was literally walking directly towards me.

Had another one come out last night when I was taking the little dog out to pee. I had my thermal but I couldn't find it. I could hear it walking through the woods behind me though and it started yipping as it got a little farther south. I walked about an eighth of a mile to try to head it off in my back field where it was headed but it quieted down and then disappeared towards the east off my property.

I need to get a thermal monocular with a wide field of view because scanning with a rifle optic is not working.
Thermal monocular is a game changer. You may want one with a lrf b/c is hard to gauge distance through thermals unless you have markers setup at designated intervals
