In this hypothetical situation, I use my GAU-8/A Avenger 30 mm gatling-style auto cannon to subdue the mother bear and then I beat the shit out of baby bear, bare handed.

I've told the story before...my brother in law and I were hiking up Mt. Monadnock in NH, (near his home), and as we crossed the snowy summit ridge from the windward to the leeward side, an A-10 was flying at us at eye level...dipped the wings to say hi, pilot waved from the cockpit and scared the living shit out of us as we crossed from silence into the sound of Armageddon. I don't think he was more than 50 feet above us.

Way back in the day I built computers for a couple of the local A10 pilots. Well, they were A10 pilots, then transitioned to F16s in a CAS roll for Desert Storm, then back to A10s. I moved so I never got the chance to ask them if they would have preferred the A10 for Desert Storm.
