Random Thought Thread

Serious question: in the Alps, I used to carry an avalanche beep - these things save many lives. Do people do this here ? Never heard of it here.

back country skiers in colorado often do. and probe poles and shovels.

eta B bluemax_1 beat me to it. I should have just kept reading. Learned how to use that equipment in a wilderness medicine course but haven't ever used it in practice.
 
I had a little training in swift water rescue, a little training in high angle, and a moderate amount of training in improvised evac. But that was quite a while ago. On the other hand, I spend a lot of time in the backcountry on foot or horseback anyway, and I have a few austere environment medical skills.

Just looked, they aren't recruiting again until January 2027. Eh. Will check in on them then if I am still mobile.

eta: hey, I'm in better shape than at least 8 percent of the firefighters I know!
