Random Thought Thread

I did check outside first and ensure a safe backstop, no people, etc

But then I did shoot a round through a wall because my drill wasn't working
Sir, you have to justify……NOTHING!!! 🥰

Standard

Ballistics testing has shown them to be effectively equivalent, and the standard loading allows faster follow-up shots for the lead hose, and less hearing damage.

I'm not a recoil sensitive, but lighter recoil is legit tactical advantage. Particularly on a micro nine.

Full support of this methodology!!!! 🤩

Off topic and definitely random on this day of all days...

...but I lost my mom today. She had a good long life to 93. She raised me to be better than I turned out.

I'd appreciate a good thought or silent prayer from anyone so inclined.

Thank you.
Sorry to hear Blues Blues . Moms are the best, and it sounds like you had a great one. Prayers for you and your family.

I carry HST 147 gr standard in all of my Glocks. I do have some 124 as well, both HST and Gold Dot.

I do too. I carry the HST 147 gr standard in all of my Glocks. They have their bullet design down to a science where it expands very well at the lower velocities. Any difference between the rounds is splitting hairs. The terminal performance in ballistic gelatin is equivalent and the 147 has no sonic crack ←FTW.

However, conventional wisdom is, they can use faster burning powder with the lighter rounds without running into chamber pressure issues, so the lighter rounds still work okay even with short barrels whereas (historically) heavier rounds give up too much velocity in tiny barrels.

I have not actually chronographed this to confirm though.

Gold Dot is all I carry in anything if it’s not practice shooting.

Speer Gold Dot and Federal HST have demonstrated functional equivalency and are both widely adopted by state and federal agencies.

The mistake that people make is practicing with less expensive ammo and saving their carry ammo for just carry

You don't know for a fact it will run in your gun reliably unless you have run hundreds of rounds through it

I don't know about Speer, but Federal has an equivalent range ammo for practice for their hst. But, you only run that after you have already run hundreds of HST through your pistol to know that it works.

If Gold Dot works in your pistol, I would not switch over to HST.

Best practice is, every week, when you practice, you run your carry loads through your pistol. And then switch over to range ammo.

With the cost of everything today, that's adding a few dollars to your range time. That doesn't even buy a gallon of gas anymore. Just send it.

Very good point. Gold Dot has always ran great through my CCW. I’ve never switched. Diesel is 6.49 here today by the way.
