I do too. I carry the HST 147 gr standard in all of my Glocks. They have their bullet design down to a science where it expands very well at the lower velocities. Any difference between the rounds is splitting hairs. The terminal performance in ballistic gelatin is equivalent and the 147 has no sonic crack ←FTW.

However, conventional wisdom is, they can use faster burning powder with the lighter rounds without running into chamber pressure issues, so the lighter rounds still work okay even with short barrels whereas (historically) heavier rounds give up too much velocity in tiny barrels.

I have not actually chronographed this to confirm though.
Several years ago, I looked up the ballistics tests between the 124gr and 147gr HST, when they came out with the 150gr Micro offering (supposedly optimized for micro/subcompact pistols).

147gr proved extremely consistent, from standard LE duty barrel lengths, to the Micro/subcompact barrel lengths.

No idea what the heck kind of testing Federal did before releasing the 150gr Micro HST, but the 147gr outperformed it (and seemed to perform more consistently than the 124gr, even in shorter barrels), and the 150gr has been discontinued for some time, now.

Speer Gold Dot and Federal HST have demonstrated functional equivalency and are both widely adopted by state and federal agencies.

The mistake that people make is practicing with less expensive ammo and saving their carry ammo for just carry

You don't know for a fact it will run in your gun reliably unless you have run hundreds of rounds through it

I don't know about Speer, but Federal has an equivalent range ammo for practice for their hst. But, you only run that after you have already run hundreds of HST through your pistol to know that it works.

If Gold Dot works in your pistol, I would not switch over to HST.
What’s the Federal HST range equivalent?

I always practiced with Speer Lawman 147gr, because the recoil impulse is very similar to 147gr HST for training fast doubles and Mozambiques.

I use the Speer Lawman 147 gr as well for a training round.

(The 147 gr HST was the winner in my G26, G19 and G17 when I was comparing various rounds some years back.)
Yup. That’s pretty much the same conclusion I came to. Made it simpler to just stack 147gr HST, (although I did get a couple cases of RA9T just for the halibut 😅).

Also have some of the Liberty Ammo 50gr 9mm for the novelty, after I saw some of the tests.

I carry Critcal Duty in 9 mm and .40 because I like the polymer tip. It feeds reliably, groups well, and cold weather thick coats can mess with penetration/expansion significantly. Just a personal preference for where I live.

What did you replace the tip of the bullet with that you used to kill that cow?
