We grew up poor, but we ate pretty good. Mostly because my mom used to make hundreds and hundreds of egg rolls every day to sell to local Chinese restaurants to pay her way through college.

Now she just makes them at Thanksgiving since our church family (who have hosted holidays since we landed in the US) love them.

That's pretty cool

Have you ever been to Chicago?

I have been to Chicago

I didn't like it
I used to go to Chicago regularly, back in the 90s.

It’s been years since I’ve been there (went to a 2Cellos concert).

There used to be areas to avoid (obviously), but the main downtown areas (eg. Michigan Ave) were OK. From reports I’ve seen, that’s not the case anymore.

Went there with friend when I was younger... back in 1996/1997 ish when I was around 17

There was a lot of homeless downtown ,2 came up to our group singing the theme song to Gillian's island.... so we gave them a couple beers and some money

Another homeless person offered to be our tour guide....... and of course we were young and oblivious to being murdered.... took him up on the offer...........

That was one most fun nights ever , Edward was a fantastic tour guide.... when we parted ways we handed him a 20 and watched him walk off into the night

(Actually he walked to the opposite corner full of plus sized and older prostitutes..... lol)

I lived for several years in the middle part of Illinois. One of our customers was a State Trooper. He said the only time he was worried about his survival was when he was assigned to patrol Chicago. He'd carry his SG ready to go along the driver side door. Against policy, but he'd seen enough to make sure he had the right cards when needed when things went down. This was late '80s & early '90s. I cannot imagine it now.

See, this is the kind of direct economic stimulus that our struggling communities need: actual trickle-down economics. Well, maybe it wasn't just a "trickle."
