Random Thought Thread

The workstation is a old high performance twin Xeon system with a pretty nice Nvidia graphics card. High performance, for its day. I'm sure my cell phone would run circles around it.

I wonder if they would let me migrate my license over to a Windows 10 machine. 😞

You're running an old dual cpu Xeon workstation? What model/generation?

Kind of curious… 🤔

Most large/expensive software packages have moved to subscription services in recent years (I currently admin AutoDesk, it's the same as well). It's not a move I care for, for exactly many of the reasons you mention.

They ran into the problem of: they finally made the software right and a person can buy it and have software that works. Without bugs or missing features or other problems compelling you to upgrade to a new version.

Unlike a car that wears out, the only way for them to continue to make income is with new users and there's a limited number of people who want high-end CAD CAM. There's a finite amount of growth that can occur in that industry.

So, other than packing up their bags and saying "yep, we finally finished the best CAD CAM program out there, we're done, we're going to go move on to something else now" they had to make it a subscription service or they would be toast.

I bought some software, it works for me. I don't want to buy new software. "You have to buy the new software we will go bankrupt!"

State of the art software from 2010, that cost as much as a new car, still works. I don't think I want to replace it

Update...The Good and The Bad

Thanks to Nate and Jo, (especially the prettier of the two), the real NUTRAMAC was contacted via info they had in their files, and he reported that he hadn't been on in a good deal of time, and that he lost access to his account...which we now know was hacked.

The good news is that it wasn't the person that many here on this forum knew from the past...the bad news is that one of our members was taken for $3000.00 when he struck a deal with the scammer for four CPKs...for which he provided a tracking number, but nothing ever was processed at UPS.

Thanks to the members that stepped up and notified us of the suspicious (AI) renderings in the Exchange, without which, we'd have not known what was going on with either of the two most recently listed sales, let alone the sale arranged by DM which is where the fraud was committed.

Glad to put this to rest. I've been working on this since 8 a.m.

Wow... Nice work.

That sale hurts though, I hope the member has some recourse they can follow to recover.

The problem is that when people see a deal, a lot of caution is thrown out the window.

Especially with AI today and photos, I would start asking for videos of the item with the seller's name AND your name on a piece of paper before paying any significant amount of money.

Even then, PayPal F&F doesn't benefit the buyer in any way.

Wow well done. What made it suspicious enough to check?
I cannot see any 🚩
To me, the blur of the table texture looked really suspicious to me around the paper. I didn't keep my earlier accusations since I didn't have proof, but the number 2 had a loop and was written differently than the previous sale posts.

You can see the handwriting style in previous posts.

💯 We used Pro-E at Lockheed precisely for its excellent surface blending/lofting features you described. F-35 has a number of complex surface features created and blended by Pro-E.

Microsoft has moved to this same model as well. I personally have one of the last versions of Office that was available to purchase as a disk, not a download, and I own it. I can put it on any computer I own. The new subscription model that has taken hold for most software is utter BS!!! 🤬 :poop:
