Random Thought Thread

Oh the funniest part of the story earlier in after I had ‘rented” that Mustang convertible V6 to cruise up and down the freeway: well I never told AVIS that I checked out of the motel (was I supposed to) and that I had decided to keep it more than the one week! So I call them after like 30 days to inform them that I’m having such a great time that I’d like to keep her for another month and they were like sh*tting bricks already that had it not been for AMEX approving the charges, they were very close to report it stolen and putting an APB or something on me. Back then, no social security number was required for car rentals where I went to and I didn’t have one anyway on a tourist visa. I gotta tell y’all I have never ever been that touristy ever again in my life. Best tourism ever 🤣

When I was about 21 and moved across the country to go the school out west I didn’t know anyone here. I loaded up a u-haul and after the long drive I got a motel room while I looked for a place to rent. In Ga. where I left from it was a renters market. They were offering free tv’s and ect to sign a lease. When I got to Cali it was cutthroat to get a place. I contacted U-Haul and they informed me that it was 20$ a day to keep it. Cut to two weeks later and I come back to my motel and the cops and U-Haul employees are towing the trailer with all my possessions in the world away. I guess they thought it had been stolen by me or someone. Eventually I was able to go to U-Haul and get it all sorted out and get it back.

highs and lows today. Nate saying he needs to produce more deks. :D Nate saying he doesnt want to do a preorder for deks. :(

I guess I can stop waiting with my breath held at least. I really thought he'd want to take my money. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edit to add - No hate, resentment, etc meant. Just airing my disappointment.

Casinostocks Casinostocks Hearing story, it reminded me of the time I bought a ton of water and put it in the cart — you know, on that lower rack at the bottom — a whole bunch of water, juice, and all that stuff.

I left the store without paying for any of it. I only noticed later, so I took everything I hadn’t paid for, drove back, explained the situation, and paid for it all.

The funniest part is that people were looking at me like I was some kind of weirdo, like “Why the hell did you come back just to pay?” lol.

Also, once when I was abroad, I was exchanging money at a currency exchange and accidentally left my passport there — seriously, it was a total accident.

About 20 minutes later, after I had already walked like a kilometer away, the girl from the exchange ran after me and gave me back my passport.

Then, about a week later during the same trip, my wife and I kind of returned the favor (call it karma or whatever), when we saw a guy drop his bank card on a busy street and we returned it to him.

I sometimes lose or forget things, but I’ve always been lucky — people either return them to me or something like that.

Deep down, I’m sure it’s because in those moments I’ve never acted dishonestly and always tried to correct my mistakes when I could.

It’s not that I believe in karma or anything like that, but no joke — honest and fair moments have always come back to me. Literally always.

I’m sure if I kept score, it would all balance out pretty much 1:1 in the end.

And another random thing that I’m incredibly proud of.
The story is pretty dumb, funny, but super real-life.
Some people in my town lost their cat. His name is “Ginger” — you know, the classic ginger cats that sort of live at home. But he turned up on one of my 16 security cameras.
Six miles away from their house!
They were taking it really hard — driving all over town, putting up flyers and everything.
And something inside me just made me check my cameras. Seriously, I could’ve easily not bothered.
And guess what? There was this ginger dumb cat right there on the feed.😅
The timestamp showed he had been there only a couple of hours earlier.

So I went out logically searching on my big property and the neighbors’ properties. And sure enough, this “Ginger” was hiding in some old shed at my neighbors’ place.
I caught him, called the owners, and they came and picked up their cat.
Now the locals, my neighbor, those people, and the guys who work at my store all call me “Ace Ventura.”
Well… I guess I’ll take it 🙄
It happened on February 22nd — I just checked the screenshot history.
It’s one of those small things I’m extremely proud of.
I never understand how life keeps dragging me into stuff like this…

The fact that these people had lost their cat just wouldn’t leave me alone. Like, I love my own animals so much that it genuinely upset me, and I thought, “What if I can actually help?”

Moreover, even when I try to tell this story in more detail, I can’t fully put it into words.
Because in total, the whole thing took me maybe just 2-3 hours.
It started with me getting really upset when I learned that these people had lost their cat and had already been searching for him for some time.
I saw how distressed they were when they brought in the flyer.
It upset me too. It just wouldn’t leave me alone, so I started checking my cameras to see if he might have passed by.
I found him surprisingly quickly — the cameras catch every movement.
I watched which direction he went, and since I know the area really well, I roughly understood where he probably headed.
I went out to look for him and found him just a 5-minute walk from my house.
I caught him (the ginger cat was not at all happy about being caught — there are dogs on the properties that bark loudly, and there’s a highway just 3-4 minutes away. If I had let him slip away, there was a real chance he might never have been found).
I wrapped him in my jacket and tried my best to hold on to this ginger demon, because he clearly thought I was his enemy.
And all of that in just a couple of hours.
Ahahaha

It's a great pattern, we will certainly revisit it. But I need to wait until the skinner pre-order is fulfilled before doing a dek pre-order.

Some people are a nexus of good. Not sure if that’s a permanent thing or if it moves around, so enjoy it while you have it!

I spotted a strange dog on our (fenced) backyard camera. Checked the Neighbors app and there was a new post about the dog. A couple of miles away across a very busy road. We spotted him down the street and, lo and behold, at least three other neighbors were out looking for her as well. Dog was reunited with her family later that day (fast moving little dog!) but the best part was how many neighbors were also on the lookout. Feels good to know that people you may not know care enough to help a lost pet.

Thanks dude! Nice to hear!
But at home in my fridge, I can never find the barbecue sauce and Tabasco… (they’re always in the fridge)😒
If you’re like me, I can’t see things that are immediately in front of my eyes. There’s some psychological thing going on and I once found what it was, but of course, can’t find it again! 😂

And then the wife will ask “Did you look ….?”, to which you say NSS! Then a couple of minutes later she walks up with the item…. It was where she asked about🤣

I understand, and would only expect you to run things in a way that works for you. I just know my best chance at a couple of DEK's is via preorders... and I just assume folks around here will be more consoling then my wife when I explain I (potentially) wont be spending another grand or so on knives lol.

I truly do appreciate how communicative you are with your customers. Performance of your knives are not the only reason I'm a fan.

Lost animals being found stories are great!

I was hunting grouse in Idaho when my AmStaff alerted. The most pitiful looking blue-tick hound was crawling towards us wagging its tail. Poor thing was just trembling and covered in dirt. I carried him back to the truck snd got him some water and food. He had a radio tracker collar on, so we got in touch with the owner 4 hrs away. They were training bear dogs and this one got separated despite looking for days. He was missing for 2 weeks. By the time the owner got to my house, the dog had been bathed, had some splinters pulled out, had some scratches cleaned up, eaten some chow, and was sleeping on the couch. It was a happy reunion and the guy offered me $ which I refused. Was a great day afield.
