Random Thought Thread

It's finally my Friday! Nightshift 7/7 underway:D

WValtakis WValtakis I always like seeing the gas turbine screenshots. What are the dual manifolds on that machine? I'm guessing two stages of fuel injection for a low emission/clean burn type of thing. Is it steam or ammonia for emissions reduction?

Off topic so I moved here...

One is gas fuel, the other is water injection for NOx control. For every pound of fuel that goes into the combustion chamber approximately 0.8 pounds of water is injected to lower the combustion temperature, which prevents the formation of thermal NOx. 90% of the NOx emissions are knocked down by that...then we use ammonia injection in the exhaust stack upstream of the SCR catalyst for the rest.

Cool. That's what I thought. I worked on DLE combustion systems for Rolls-Royce for about 10 years. They reduce emissions with fuel management, no water (hence the D, in DLE). No water treatment systems, but not without their own problems. Pick your poison.

well, today is the main move. We've already moved a bunch of stuff over there, and there will still be tons of stuff to move over the next week or two, but today is the day we move the irreplaceable primary machining centers.

ugh

my back hurts
Hey Nathan, don't know if you already have one, but if not, have you ever considered getting one of those massage chairs?

I used to love sitting in those things in the Sharper Image stores in malls.

Of course, if you're a *cheapskate like me*, you end up with one of these massage cushions instead:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BOYA2M2/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_inactive_ship_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Gotta say, that little cheapy version (cheap, meaning relatively, at ~$50 vs $1200 - $2000+ for the full massage chairs, although I could've sworn it was $29.99 when I bought it 2 years ago).

One of the things I like about the one linked above vs the Homedics one a friend has, is that the one above changes the direction of rotation every 30(?) seconds. It makes a pretty big difference. Move it to the spot where I want it, and as it's rotating in one direction, it feels good, but then it changes directions and suddenly, it's like, "Ohhhhhh... yeaaaaaahhhhh...".

*I know, I know. Buys $XXX - $XXXX knives. Too cheap to buy $XXXX massage chair*
Ah, but I have ZERO worries about the knives EVER breaking :p

Random, not really random but still ranging from very sad to very aggravating, but posted in here to serve as a cautionary tale:

A UF which I had sold elsewhere to someone who later on we both discovered to also be members on here, has ended up in the bureaucratic knife purgatory / hell

The UF had a sharpened back of the tip and I was actually very concerned about it going to Aus but the new owner had also bought quite a few knives both from here and there and was quite certain that there would be no issues. Cut a long story short, that UF never made it out of the international dispatch center in Erlanger, KY where they do all the export/ import customs' paperwork. The buyer was automatically refunded by that other place which some say is a huge auction site and then I got an email notifying me that I will not be docked any fund$. That CPK-UF will probably not see the light of day as there was no option to have it returned to me which saddens me very much :(

In closing, no one seems to lose any $ but a very fine knife will be lost for good. I think that Jo is already aware of not shipping certain knives to some international destinations but this will be yet another reminder of such mishaps. The silver lining is that the transaction was carried out over there because had it been a PayPal handled transaction over in here with the Aussie customs getting involved, the results could've turned out to be far worse for at least one of us involved in the transaction.

Silver lining on what could have been even more of a mess.

That is why I don't ship to international destinations directly (Canada is fine with me for fixed blades). The good thing about the other venue's Global Shipping Program is my obligation to ship it safely and successfully to their Intl. hub in Erlanger, KY.
