Random Thought Thread

I dropped my 15 degree per side UF on my ceramic tile floor approximately 4’ tip first and bent the crap out of it. I was thinking about sending it in, but I just fixed it the best I could on my stones.

Honestly, other than the tiny dent near the spine, it's barely noticeable so I think you did a great job!

In other news, I got my UF last Thursday and don't know why it took me so long to get one. This thing is awwwwesome!

Y'all keep it up with these sharpening/dropped knives horror stories and @betzner is going to show up and post gory photos of his experience, so knock it off!

Speaking of which, anyone seen him lately?

We exchanged email messages about a couple of weeks ago but otherwise no, Bob has not been posting much lately.

Speaking of AWOL friends, Rob (@NUTRAMAC) has been absent for a very long time. I did send Rob a what's up and how're you doing email, but never heard back. I think that he also works in a hospital so I hope that all is well with both him and his in the era of COVID-19.

Darrel, the spots go in order of sequence immediately after Nathan's WTS post and not in the way which the BF.com system numbers the posts which very often on a Nathan's sale yields multiples of the same #, for instance the 6 x #7s which you had counted at the last sale.

Friday CPK sale threads are how I discovered that could happen... I thought BF would automatically number all the posts in order, but apparently we post so fast that the server must register simultaneous requests. I wonder how those get sorted into post order...

I think the BF server doesn't register fractions of seconds for listing post numbers; i.e. if the server queue is logjammed, every post that registered as 3:00:05, shows up as post #4 etc. (It's quite likely that the server DOES queue the posts as they come in so they are actually listed in order, the glitch is simply with the post numbers).

About a year ago I dropped my small Sebenza on the concert floor in my garage. The floor suffered more than the point of the blade, but the point was slightly damaged. A few minutes in my DMT "stone" and you couldn't tell that anything happened to it. There were no sparks that I could see. What I am trying to say is that these days there are guided sharpening tools if you don't have the manual dexterity to do the job free hand.

When I was a kid in the 50s, we had a hand crank grinder. It did a terrible job, but no one cared. There was also a man who rode a bike around the area who sharpened knives.

Anyone else remember these?

I don’t know for sure but if it’s alphabetical I am changing my name to AAAAAAmpjustin ;) lol

I think that when you click on "post", the server software grabs the next post# off of the thread stack, posts your post in the forum with that post#, and then updates the next post number available on the stack. If enough people post almost simultaneously, several people are able to grab the same "next post" number off of the stack before the software has updated the next post number. But the posts should still appear in chonological order.

Apparently the active ingredient found in Amanita Muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric or fly amanita, is excreted through the urine unchanged.

This means that someone could drink the piss of someone who has recently eaten them and get high as balls.

Random thought.

Up until I moved out, there was a man who would walk around my parents neighbourhood ringing a bell, offering sharpening services. I don't think he's around anymore.

Semi-related, apparently there used to be professional cured meat slicers in Italy/Spain that would go door-to-door/restaurants offering cured meat slicing services.
