Random With (Maybe) No Particular Place To Go

WoW ... didn't realize Okapi were getting so hard to come by. Did a search and found one(1) site in Canada that supposedly has a few and another site with a few but not sure what country they are even in (prices were in dollars though). Neither site is on the B/F Paid Dealer Members List, so won't name them. I just had to keep clicking through the "Okapi" search results. Couldn't find any Okapi info as to why everyone is out of them and nothing on the official Okapi site indicates anything "amiss", so dunno. Guess I'll hold my Baby Sable and Genet slipjoints a little closer LOL. Could not find an Okapi locking knife ANYWHERE ... maybe on the Bay, but with a stupid outrageous price.

Nothing but the genuine article for me. I mentioned this recently in another thread, but I got my first one in the early 90s in Africa. That one is not pictured here - it got stolen along with my briefcase some years later. The others I managed pick up when they were cheap and readily available - they are all genuine and the most I paid for any of them was $23 - most were $15 and under. I have another dozen or so that I re-handled and in some cases modified the blade shape. I also did a number of re-handles and gave them away as gifts.

Sorry for the shoddy picture.

Been overwhelmed by your enthusiasm and wealth of pictures, an avalanche of a collection :thumbsup:

If you ever put up some for sale, there'd be a flurry of interest ;)

Down Right Impressive Tom !!! I'm jealous ... very jealous. Keith Richards and the rude boys got nothing on you my man :)

EDIT: J Just Tom. ... and how Keith Richards can open and close his Okapi locking knife one handed, effortlessly, is just beyond me !!! ... Playing a guitar his whole life professionally gives him REALLY strong fingers and hand dexterity I guess.

Thanks Will Power !!! ... Your words are too generous and much appreciated. You guys posting your knives just humble and impress me so much.

This Indian River Jack was the first KSF Derrick Bohn Northwoods knife I bought. Initially I was not impressed with the F/F of this Queen Cutlery example execution. Not at all. I even spoke with Derrick about it. He generously offered to accept a return but the knife couldn't be replaced. It was the last one that was in stock at KSF. Indeed, they were sold out when I looked on KSF for one ... then a couple of days later this one popped up and I jumped on it. I think maybe it had already been a return. So, I kept it and boy am I glad I did. After giving it some lovin' and making it through the bonding phase, it now has a forever home for sure, and is a personal favorite. OH ... and Derrick had said right up front in his Indian River Jack video that he was slightly disappointed overall with Queen's effort on this release and it was meant to be a working knife. And it certainly is a good one at that !!! :)

Jack Black, your massive collection is museum quality. I've ALWAYS been highly impressed not only by your shared pictures but your shared knowledge and willingness to help. Outstanding !!!

Thank you very much Jim, that's extremely kind of you :) I've just been posting random groups

Older Rodgers on the left, older Richards in the middle, newer Rodgers on the right
Jack Black Jack Black ... is there anything you could mention about my pipe knives? Thanks !!!
Same pattern but I think the Rodgers is the better knife in this case

3 nice Pipe Tools Jim :) I would guess that the Rodgers knife, on the left, was produced at the time Rodgers were in the Richards factory on Moore Street in Sheffield (1979 or 1980-1982), it's essentially a Richards pattern with the Rodgers mark. I would think 1960's for the older Richards model, and the other Rodgers knife is one produced by Eggington, which is still in production

Thank you sir !!! Terrific knowledge Jack !!! ... I bought the older two on the Bay. I was looking for that specific pattern I remembered from my 1970's. The newer Rodgers was purchased as new from an online site ... had to have a new one too LOL :D

I often give Pipe Tools away to pipe-smokers, but these 4 came to hand (I think there's at least 3 Richards models in my clean-up pile)

The bottom two were made for Dawes & Ball, the next one up is by Joseph Rodgers, and top one is by 'Polo' of Japan

Camillus Rigging Knife. Best knife a Bosun's Mate could have on his belt
Shiny from the gold souk in Dubai during a port visit three decades ago while on a U.S. Navy sailing "adventure" when gold wasn't so expensive as it is today

That's a fantastic photo Jim :)
