Range series

It's Here!!! The wait is over!
It Was delivered to the wrong address. We went out and retrieved it.
On to the analysis. It is sharp as WOW! The pivot was not as quick as the posted U-tube video professed. However I lubed the pivot and oiled the crossbar and all is good. IMG_3713.jpeg
Added knives for comparison . Thickness is very close to the spyderco ambitious . Top is zippo sodbuster jr, Buck 503, spyderco ambitious and Vic tinker.

Interesting to know. Thank you for the feedback!

I have a couple of Spyderco Ambitious knives including the blue one in your photo. I have always appreciated the thickness of the handles on the Ambitious. I would not call them thin. In one of the videos from Knifecenter, the reviewer states that he liked the thickness of the FRN handles better than the thinness of the aluminum models.

Thanks again for the informative feedback.

I couldn’t make up my mind on one of these or another TRM, so I grabbed a Kizer Spitfire instead. Then I was thinking of putting the brakes on new knives for awhile, as I kinda went on a bit of a spending spree the last couple of months. But last time I happened to be on the Buck page, this gray FRN did catch my eye. Unfortunately so did a Gray Elite. Now I think you just pushed me back off the fence and put this knife back on the radar. I certainly don’t need another general-purpose EDC, especially another Buck (I only have 16 others, 14 of which never see the light of day), but you must know how this is gonna end. 🤣 The question now is, will it be a Pro or an Elite? Only your hairdresser knows for sure.

God bless BF. 😁

Every time I place knives aside for culling, then look at them again later just to make sure, it always ends with "why am I getting rid of this one, I like it..." 🤣

Oh yeah - I think long and hard before putting anything up in the exchange. Got a handful in there right now that will easily cover a nice new Elite and Pro if somebody will just take them already. Come on, guys, just think, you could be posting a nice OTF or gravity knife over in Latest Acquisitions in just a few days!

I have always liked ATS 34/ 154 cm/ cpm 154. That was the biggest reason for that choice.

My Range Elite tracking says it was delivered to the mailbox today, however, there was nothing in my mailbox. I'm hoping the PO goofed up and its here tomorrow. Our neighborhood mail carrier has goofed up deliveries multiple times in the past, so I have my fingers crossed it gets sorted out. I've been chomping at the bit for months to get my hands on a Range and ordered it as soon as it dropped on Buck's website. If the PO put it in someone else's box, I hope they are honest folks and don't just pocket my purchase!
Did your Range Elite ever show up?

It hasnt shown up yet. When I initially emailed Buck support to check if it had been shipped, they told me it had been delivered that day, however, that was a different order that had been delivered weeks before. I assumed it was put in the wrong mailbox, but it wasn't (thank God).

I checked the status of my order again with Buck and was told it was with still with shipping and hadn't been shipped yet. I still haven't received a shipping notification, so I emailed them again on Friday. Sort of frustrating as I placed my order on August 26th in the morning as soon as I saw the Ranges were available! You can't tell me it takes nearly 3 weeks to ship an order! Maybe they were out of Green Range Elites, but I doubt it as I ordered the first day the Ranges became available.

I got an update, it sounds like the knife is on back order. There must have been a ton of orders for the Range Elite as I put my order in before Buck sent the marketing email announcing the Range was now available mid-day on August 26th!

Sorry to hear about this. I have to wonder if they misplaced your order and by the time they found it, they were out of that model.

I know this doesn’t help but I went into a pizza joint once and ordered a pizza at the counter. I waited and waited until I couldn’t take it anymore so I went back up to the counter and inquired about it approximately 40 minutes later. That got them to investigating and they found my ticket on the floor. Somebody had dropped it and they hadn’t even started making my pizza yet. This was the night that Lonesome Dove made its debut on network television. Back in the 1990’s or whenever it was. I missed more than half of Part 1 waiting on that dang pizza!

Thanks for the comparison shot with more common knives! That was really helpful.

Oh man! That would have really stunk. Lonesome Dove is one of the greatest westerns of all-time in my book.

I’m a couple of weeks in to this relationship, and have carried and used the Mini Range every day. I’ve spent about three days helping a friend move over the past week. A lot of opening boxes, cutting zip ties, bubble wrap, etc. A lot of reps reaching for the knife from my pocket, opening, cutting, closing, re-pocket, repeat. A lot of reps. I’ve noticed the grippiness of the plastic has worn in quite well. Not too much texture, and not too little. Just right.

I’ve also noticed that the jimping on the back of the blade is perfect, as well. Not too aggressive, rounded just enough, but still serves the purpose and gives a non-slip grip to leverage with.

I received a Range Elite today. No issues with fit n finish. Razor sharp out of the box. Only issue I have is with the lack of grip from the aluminum scales. I have naturally dry hands and the aluminum is very slippery when opening/closing one-handed. In my opinion the aluminum needs some type of texturing. I do have a Range Pro on order as well and suspect the textured FRN will not be an issue.
Does the Range Series sticker come with all the Range knives?

Cool sticker! Did you order direct from Buck? I didn’t get a sticker picking up from Knife Center.

I’ve also thought aluminum knives I’ve had in the past were too slippery.

That’s a great set of American made tools!

Is that the green handle? I’ve been leaning towards the gray myself, but now seeing yours I’m kinda torn.

I was curious about the sticker myself. I did not purchase it, but to my surprise it was with the knife.

I didn't get a sticker with mine either. I got mine from the non supporting dealer east of Knoxville .
