Ranking of Steels in Categories based on Edge Retention cutting 5/8" rope

[\QUOTE]As far as heat treat I am basiclly following the Crucible data sheet and used multiple SH tempers on these blades as reccommended by the guys who use this grade for actural industrial applications. This method gave me the wear resistance and toughness I was looking for. I may later try some deep cryo and low temper experiments as well based on some information from Daberti.

Daberti has provided me with some great tech information and papers and I appreciate any help I get especially with some of the Bohler-Uddeholm grades he has experience with. Thinking of a fillet knife with ELMAX and that should be a good test bed. Phil[/QUOTE]

An Elmax fillet knife sound great! I'm curious to see how the low temper M4 works out. There has been some good reviews on low temper 3V. Sorry about Phil's quote above. I'm working of my IPhone:mad:

I thought Nitrides are Nitrogen based?

Niobium Nitrides is to my understanding a niobium nitrogen based structure

Yes. You're right. But instead of writing twice for same matter I wrote once: ie Niobium, V etc can form also nitrides, and what I wrote above it is even more valid, as, think about Vanax, such nitrides are smaller than their carbides equivalents.

I was thinking about having a raffle.

I have this really nice CPM M4 knife.... ROFL :D

j/k. :D

You said it and it's a long time since I've been thinking about it and you can witness this.

What if any of the non-knifemakers attending this thread would show their tangible appreciation for Ankerson's efforts and results by just gifting him some $$ ?

I'm going to do that tomorrow. Just to give the example. [emoji41]

Edit: PP sent ;)

That's a great idea. Jim, pm me your PayPal info. At the very least I'm covering shipping and sharpening! :)

I have a knife that I've been using for am edc for around a year now in that steel. It's got some cosmetic flaws (which is why I picked it for myself instead of selling it) but the grind and heat treatment are good. As soon as I figure out what I'll cary as a replacement I'll get your details and send that over to you. It'll probably be sometime next week.

Will be adding it real soon. :)

Awesome. I usually ask my heat tester for an extra point or so. But this was a pretty good EDC for about a year.
