Ranking of Steels in Categories based on Edge Retention cutting 5/8" rope

Update. :)

Michael Raymond Starlit in CPM 20CV coming up soon.

Got it in today for testing.

Don, pick up an Ultimate Hunter. Am sure you will like it!
I got one on the way.
Given the high hardness, what would be a good edge angle, if the toughest I cut are zip ties and every so often there might be side loads from whittling.
Thank you.

Hey Jim, thank you for this thread and all of the work that you do and knowledge you have given us. I was wondering if you would be interested in testing out a Nitrobe 77 blade made by Carson Tech and a Boker Anso Solo in cpm 3v that's supposed to be ran at 62-63 hrc? Both are a lil too thick behind the edge for my liking (around 0.025 or so) but Im planning to have then reground to about 0.010 or so and then they would be much better suited for rope cutting and cutting in general. I do have a Rockstead Higo with a dlc xyr7 blade at around 65 hrc but im still on the fence about that knife if I plan on keeping it or not, but if I do, I and im sure a lot of others would like to see just where the Rockstead lands amongst the vanadium carbide monsters. Let me know about the N77 and cpm 3v and if you're interested, ill get them reground and send them over to you. Thank you again and take care.

Let me know. :)

Jim, someone in the USA must have some thin edged CPM S90V you could test one day. I'm curious to see where it fits in on the 400 grit section.

I do have one that's been reground, but would prefer to test a custom ideally if it's going to be that thin. :)

I am sure I will get around to it :)
