Great reading everyone and a must have book for any Ratpacker.
"Adventure Travel in the Third World" (notice the Jurassic Park fonts!:D)
The RC3 thanks to its relatively thin blade is used as bookmark !:p

I got it through that "big famous river in the rain forest" dot com...
Did you caught my drift ?

lol nice! i caught the drift. Ill admit it took me a sec. I was like "whaaaaaaaattttt......" And then it hit me like a ton of bricks lol. Ill have to check that out, thanks for the help.

As a kayak fisherman, I always carry a couple of blades with me. How do these knives hold up to regular saltwater exposure? I rinse all my gear after each trip out on the salt.

Thanks,
Jay

I think they will rust pretty bad. Id get stainless for that kind of work. Probably a mora would work great for in the kayak. Super cheap, lightweight and great for fish:)

Here are a couple of new pics.

I attached a Lock Clip to the Izula and then added the knife to the Pals webbing on the SO Tech Mission Go Bag:

Then, as I was admiring my photo, the new Rat Pack knife strolls up, acting all nonchalant, sets up the timer on the camera and then leans against the pack in what it thinks will be mistaken for a cameo shot. What a ham.

ugg i need to sve up some more cash to get a rat,i just picked up a spyderco para military and now i whant to get me a really good fixed blade but cant decide between the rc-3 or rc-4 i know the difrences but still not to sure

I had the same problem. I went for the rc-4 and im happy i did!

i went with the rc4, then got my RP knife, and could have been just as happy with either of them haha!

Alright I need to start getting some pics of my Izula up and get on this whole Rat pack # thing in case there is any RP knives in the future. Because those things are making me just a little jealous.

I agree with the other guys on this. Carbon steel and salt water don't mix well. Or rather, they mix too well...chemically. Get an affordable stainless knife like a Mora clipper ~$10 on most sites. Or something from spyderco's salt line. I imagine it's easy to lose a knife when kayaking so personally I'd opt for the much cheaper Mora. Grab a half dozen while you're at it

You should be fine  I take my RAT out on the beach, usually just wipe down and rinse if I have fresh water on me, then wash when I get back home. You couldn't go wrong with a couple of Stainless Moras though, or if you want to drop coin, Spyderco's H1 knives

A RAT-7 2005 collectors with satin D2 blade and ram's horn handles. Rounded the edges of the handles where they pinched and trying out some bicycle inner tube for added grip. (Specialized 26x1.25/1.5) The handles partially blocked the lanyard hole, so I ground them back a bit, but need to do a lot more work cleaning up the area. The lanyard hole needs to be reamed, polished, and chamfered too.

God that is a good looking blade!
