You're mixing your escapes, you're not allowed to do that! 
Yes, there are a lot of things you can use to force the bows.
Sometimes slamming works, sometimes it doesn't. If you have Peerless or the modified Peerless with Medeco retrofit locks...slamming and then shimming is a really good idea.
You can't slam them well behind your back so you have to slip the cuffs under your ass and get them in front of you. If you are otherwise restrained, slamming can be a problem.
