I posted this over in the RAT Cutlery forum but thought yall might be interested:

This is a prototype of an idea we had. This one was built by our friends at ArmsTech. We plan on doing these in production numbers. We will probably change some dimensions on it and downsize the mag rod a bit and also shorten it just a bit to make it more compact. The capsule will stay about the same though. Right now it is 3/4" outside diameter. Plenty big inside for tinder, a couple of small fish hooks, swivels and a lead sinker or two. No pricing on this yet nor do we have a production schedule worked out.

Ill take 2, or 3, or 12:eek:

Great stuff guys, you all are turning out amazing products.

Seems like RAT is the leading the pack right now. Nice work, if you put your name on it, I know its good stuff!

That's a great design; my only recommendation would be to make the ferro rod larger and the magnesium a little smaller. I would reverse the attachment method and have the ferro-rod larger and connect to the handle capsule. Great design though and one I will probably pick up! Also if you make the rod/combo diameter similar to most fire-steel loops on sheaths, it would be a great upgrade for many of us!

Oh yeah, I'm down with that. I'd second the notion of increasing the size of the ferro rod component.

I agree that the ferro rod needs to be larger. We're working out the details on this and that's the reason we wanted to post it up for feedback.

As a simpler design, please consider this arrangement without the magmesium; just a good ferro rod would appeal most to me, especially if it fit into the loops on my bushcraft sheaths.

You guys are amazing! Keep up the good work!!

Personally, I'm all for doing away with the magnesium rod altogether and going with a 3/16" diameter ferro rod instead. Brings the price down.

I think it would be nice have it available in options- ie. one in a combo mag/ferro and another offering in ferro only.
