RAT For Urban Survival?

oh geez your right.optical illusion kinda.I like those coutycomm mini pry bars I just saw those are a must have.I just found this site and man I love it!Its giving me so many ideas on how to keep my family and my self more prepared and secure.

this morning I edc my RC-3 mil & HEST.and didn't need either witch is a good thing.but they were there just in case.

I've always said that the best knife for urban survival is a decent multitool. I'd rather have my Wave and a decent prybar than a dedicated knife.

If it had to be a RAT, it would depend on the local laws. If I could carry anything I wanted RAT wise, an RC-5 is a pretty good prybar with a sharpened edge.

Other than that, if the law was for a shorter blade, HEST.

For urban survival, RC5, a pocket folder and a gun. If you're in survival mode, does blade length reallly matter? At that point I don't care what the cops or other people think. For EDC maybe a 4 if the law allows. The 5 is just too big for EDC.
If something goes down I'm grabbing my 6..................and a rifle.
For urban EDC I have a folder and a handgun.
I try to prepare for emergencies more than survival in urban settings. IMO, urban survival requires a gun first and foremost with a good knife backing you up.

For Urban Survival I got a Flame Thrower in my Maxpedition bergen.
And I always bring a lighter with me (right front pocket) you never know if the quartz piezo on the FT nose will get jammed or not.
Flame throwers are great.
1- it's fun to use. (You should see them running !!!)
2- I don't need any firestarter in camping.
3- I always got some marshmallow on me (left front pocket)
4- I don't queue anymore.

OK that's Paris. Flame Throwers are authorized in winter and Karsher in the summer time.

But seriously. The city/jungle/warzone is your friend. All you need is your brain and credit card. (forget the brain...)
Never to proud to duck !

Cheers
Nemo :D

PS: get the HEST !

If in survival u mean SHTF, Just have to visualize what the use of the knife will be..for me the biggest danger is too many desperate people in the confines of the city..so id have to get away.but if u stay the knife will be a back up to your gun, hopefuly and may be used for dressing game aka fido and kitty and tweety..The military will probably move in and declare martial law and take away ur weapons...yep..id definately bug out to a friend or relative in the country. or just take up Teepee living.Just have to invision what youd want to have with you at any one time under various situations..there is no best. A Sak, multitool, Rat, or whatever will serve u well for most situations.

I carry my Izula as my last ditch neck knife as a back up to my pocket folder. If I gear up for outdoors activities I take my RC3 with me. I wear the RC3 on my belt with a modified TKW clip off one of my mag pouches..

IMO concealment is as important as utility in an urban environment, so my choice would be a multitool on the belt to take care of most things, and an rc5 in the pack, in case things get really serious.

I think my first choice would be the RC5, followed by the H.E.S.T.. The Hest is probably a "do-more" item, but my instincts point me to the strongest tool possible and I'll figure out the rest.

I would take my RC-5 in a heart beat. But I am not an either or guy, I would take ALL my blades. That is the very reason for cargo pants.

Well I have a folder and a Multitool on me at all times. My BOB/GHB has an Izula strapped to it and a HEST is in my EDC bag. I like the HEST best for the "only knife" get home blade for the Urban environment. While I wouldnt use it as a serious prybar (I also have a CountyComms mini prybar) the prybar part would work well to make enough space to get the real prybar in place.

My stand point on SHTF is to blend in and NOT stand out with a lot of gear that call attention to me. Anything larger then a HEST, RC-3, or Izula will draw attention, not a good idea.

H.E.S.T. seems like a good choice, but I would recommend two knives. The Izula, naturally, and the RC3. Of course, where to keep them is a different story. I wouldn't know.
