A question on the HRLM choil: The choil looks a little small....Is it really usable? Can you fit your finger in the choil and choke up on the blade?
Order in! Tanker grey and Black canvas Ratmandu.

EXCELLENT question - didn't order a HRLM because it looked small...
Maybe someone an chime in?

You're good to go, when I'm sending out hundreds of emails I try to do as little typing as possible (copy/paste is a good thing)

Order in. Maybe if I stock up, my sons will stop raiding my knife drawer and leave some for me to use.
Haven't gotten my confirmation yet... must be stacked up back there.
The blade length on a Ratmandu and HRLM is very close to the same, the Ratmandu is 5.25 inches and the HRLM is 4.5 inches. The choil on the HRLM should be just as usable as the choil on the Ratmandu, or very close to the same. The biggest difference between the two is that the HRLM's blade is wider. This gives it the illusion of being much shorter.
My 2 cents.
I've seen this posted before, but my measurements come out with a slightly bigger difference between the two on length of blade.
Since the Rat home forum seems to be offline right now (where I posted a similar post a day or 2 ago), I will re-measure these and post here... (hmm, after re-measuring it seems I made an error to the tune of an eighth of an inch or so on the plus side all the way around in my post on the Home forum, darn it!)
All measurements are approximate
HRLM:
Blade from tip to top of handle: 4-1/8"
OAL is 9-1/8"
RMD:
Blade from tip to top of handle: 5-3/8
OAL is 10-3/8"
Both are 3/16" thick & both are 1-3/8" in blade width. I took a shot at measuring the choils at the widest point and it seems to be 5/8" for the HRLM & 7/8" for the RMD at best measuring guess.
The choil on the HRLM is smaller, but still functional/usable. Since one won't need to choke up on the blade of the HRLM as much as on the RMD for delicate tasks, a 'normal' size finger should fit & work well there. If ya got thick fingers, it might be a tad small.
