I just love the Ratmandu. I think I have purchased four of five of them. I sold some when they were off the market a while. I got my first at Blade maybe 2007 or 2009. I forget. Today I ordered one in tanker gray and black paper micarta. I hope they never stop making that model. It's my favorite 5" blade knife of all time.

I have a huge box full of choppers I seldom use. The SYKCO 1311 is the new king. My income no longer allows me to buy as many choppers as I did in the past. The Bushwackers are great. I still use my M9LE on occasion.

Glad to see ya hanging around V. I do agree that the RMD is one of the best.

Mmmmmmmmmm.....RMD.......

..... I also have an LE that I now realise I have never photographed.... !!!

Good to see you, HD. Hope all's well with you and yours. :)

The RMD is arguably the finest utility fixed-blade ever made and it's one of the few knives I own multiples of. But it's not my favorite Swamp Rat knife. That distinction still belongs to my Camp Tramp.

Nice pictures. The tanker gray and black looks great! Now I know what mine will look like. Thanks.

I don't seem to have the problem you speak of, Vic...... My first Bussekin was a RMD, but it didn't click for me and I've yet to try another. I will admit I've considered giving it a second chance, but no dice yet.....:)

Let me guess... It has a choil? ;)

Knives are such and individual thing.... I had read much about the RMD and at the time the Swamp had none available.... it was doing my head in then I acquired three in a week..... :D :D The first to arrive was the black with tan one above and I can say that it was love at first hold.... it sounds silly but I have never before or since had a knife that felt that good in hand from the get go...!!!!!!!!!

Always love to hear these types of stories. Just brings a tear to my eye.

I have more RMD's than I have hands... to some that may seem silly but I know you guys understand. :D

The one I can't bring myself to use is a blk on blk g-10 from the original run. It's just too perfect...

No question the RMD is an instant classic. It is the best value in the knife world at this point in time IMO. I beat the snot of of one of mine and did a little review on it. The thing just does everything well. What's not to like?

Batoned a lot of Mesquite (50% harder than Hickory)... still shaved arm hair. Pardon the blood... sometimes the baton wins. :o

Trever hooked me up on one of these... and like Andy the Aussie it was love at first hold. The slightly longer blade makes it UBER-Sexy!!!

I only have one (Old Ugly) at the moment, but a tan/muddy is surely in my not too distant future! Love the tanker grey/black paper also so maybe I should order them as a pair.

Think I liked the older version that had more of a swedge going, but all the variants that are popping up- especially the bowie/clip are amazing. On my short list is the RMDx.

I have had so many RMD's it's not funny... And I've sold nearly every one of them just as fast as I get them.

I always think it's gonna be different, but I can just never find a use for this knife.

RMDx LE is the exception. That's the one they got just right ;)

Excellent knife indeed, perfect ergos. Kind of addicting. My 4th one since december is on order now its another custom SE satin FFG, but this time with black canvas micarta and there is one more combo i want. A black paper black blade. Theres just so many options its hard to not want a few.

I agree, I think it really boils down to the size of the RMD. It's too small to be very good at chopping, yet too big to be ideal for the finer tasks. Too thick to be a good slicer, yet too thin to be indestructable. Compromises are made for everything, and knives are no exception obviously.

That being said, I do prefer a 6" blade over 4.5"-5.5" for the added utility. I'm still not sure how I feel about 6" vs 8" though, as the 6" is easier to belt carry but not as good for chopping. Compromises, indeed......
