The pages are up at RAT Cutlery. The photos are of wooden models. The specs listed are not guaranteed at this stage. The next step on the RC-5 is getting basic approval from the SERE guys. After that, steel models will be cut and and hand finished for actual testing, abuse, etc. After everything is approved production will begin. We're still a ways down the road on this. I know most of you are not going to like the sharpened pommel but this was a request from SERE...and it it is a LOT sharper than the RC-3 pommel. We will most likely build a modified (rounded) pommel as well.

Same with the neck knife. Next step is steel models and sample sheathing. Once that gets approval from us then we're into production. The neck knife has a hole in the pommel that will accommodate clipping it with a carabiner. This also make it easy to grab with thumb and index finger if you're carrying it inverted like a neck knife. I figure the sheathing will come with a chain for neck carry and a hole in the sheath in case you want to clip it in inverted.

We need a name for the neck knife, so start giving us some ideas here on this thread. As usual, whoever comes up with something we like will get free knives, etc.

Well, put me down for a RC-5 SERE as well. That looks great.

I know you did the blade to meet the SERE specs. Looks interesting.

Now, lets see: Need - RC-6, RC-5 SERE, RC-3....

and new part-time job as well. :p

Keep it up RAT Cutlery!

Some very cool stuff there, I'm excited to see how they both end up. I like the looks of the SERE a lot, but am uncertain of the thickness, and of course the pommel. But I think you guys did a great job, considering so many basic design components were dictated!

Re: the necker name... I'm no good at those...

RC-Mini?
RC-Necker?
RC Pecker?
RAT Pup? (I like this one)

We're going to do our best to keep this neck knife very affordable, even with a Kydex sheath.

I can get a full hand grip on it so that will give you an idea of size. This is going to make a nice small survival kit knife or daily carry piece.

RAT Pup sounds interesting. Keep the names coming.

We need a name for the neck knife, so start giving us some ideas here on this thread.

Capybara?

I googled "South American Jungle Rat" and that's what I got. :D

Die hard necker fan, can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: Another thought for a necker,..... "Field Mouse".

One thing to keep in mind is whatever name we decide on we will do a trademark search and will only use it if it is not already registered. With that said, a certain knife company will probably read this thread and apply for registration on every name yall come up with. It costs 325 dollars for short form application per name, so if "some knife company" wants to do that, then by all means, spend that money, and keep the economy going. :D

Think outside the box with names also. Weird or strange names that don't make a lot of sense will probably not be trademarked by another cutlery company.

Lets try: "RAT Windcrafter": lightweight and practical and really useful......

I really like the looks of that little bugger!

The necker is a winner. I won't be able to resist it. Clean lines, light weight, practically all blade. Excellent.

The SERE looks interesting.

One question though, will the micarta handle regular use bowdrilling? I know being SERE thing, it's meant for emergency use, and they don't much care if they have to buy a new knife after they live through whatever.

I like the necker design alot. Its looks solid and highly usable. My only critique would be a personal preference for it being .125" thick like the RC-3, since a necker is invariably used as that handly slicer that it always right there and this would cut down on weight. 187" isn't too thick to get sharp though and it will make for a tough little guy. Also I can see that this thickness does set it apart from other neckers, many of which are in the thinner range. What about something intermediate lite .150 (similar to the Bark River mini-CDN?). 1095 is a great steel choice for this knife. I'm assuming you will be using differential heat treat?

SERE-5 doesn't strike my fancy as much, but that is just my personal taste and how I see Rat Cutlery knives fitting in with my knife usage. I recognize this is an ordered design and you guys are doing us a favor by making it available on a larger run. Plus there seems to be a lot of demand for .25" slabs of metal.

I purchased an RC-4 last week and am anxiously awaiting it to clear customs. The RC-6 is something I am saving up for and I have a coffee can with the RC-6 picture on it, accumulating spare bills and coins. Strange as that may sound, it is a pretty affective way for me to build up $150 over a month or two. Can't wait to see the user pictures of it when it comes out.

Micarta is tough. I have used it for a bowdrill cap in the past and it works great and does not wear away. It will turn black but doesn't wear away. Let's put it this way, if you wear it our we'll give you another one ;)

Love the necker.

You could name it the RAT Nicker in honer of a certain person from "a certain company [that] will probably read this thread and apply for registration on every name [we] come up with". Not really in your style to call someone out, but it would be rather funny.

The first one I thought of (but didn't post) earlier was:

RAT Tail

but, when driving earlier I thought of:

RAT T.R.A.P - The RAT Auxiliary Piece or The Randall's Auxiliary Piece

I think there's a company out there that carries a recognized "pup" titled knife - The SEAL pup.

I like spokypistoleros RC pecker makes me thing of the story ' A RAT with a pecker this big". seriously I like the name "River Otter"
