RC3 disapointment

The edge on my RC-3 (and it is an RC-3 from Rowen, before the change to ESEE) has a very thin edge. Quite nice! But I can believe it might end up with an issue going through a knot in the right (or wrong) piece of wood. I mean, it is a good steel, and a great knife, but it is just steel. Combine the thin edge with an imperfect hit with the baton, and powya... chip. It sounds like it wasn't TOO bad if maverick was still able to work it out of the edge.

Not a hit on RAT, ESEE, Rowen, or Maverick. Sometimes things just happen.

I have a D2 RAT-7 (Ontario vintage) that I unknowingly tried to baton through a nail in a piece of lumber, trying to knock some kindling off. I had been batonning with it a lot on that lumber, and it was knotty. But it had always gone through eventually. Not this time. I was astounded, couldn't figure it out. Until I got the knife out, and in the process noticed the other side of the piece, with a little bit of nail sticking out. The head had pulled off it, as I remember, so I didn't notice it at first. The amazing thing was the edge of the RAT, while slightly blunted, was in FAR better shape than I ever would have believed.

What does that have to do with this? Hmmmm... dunno. Maybe nothing except to say that sometimes even the best and most careful intentions are all for naught.

I haven't been on this forum in a while but just reading this makes me want to go buy another ESEE. Absolutely incredible knives and if possible your CS is even better. If there were more companies like you this would be a better world.

I emailed Jeff a few days before the BLADE started. The Postal Service wouldnt take it and i spoke to Fedex, and they were ready to ship it for $60! Now, Fedex doesn't have a pickup location in my town and the nearest one is 400 miles! Hence, i dropped the idea and emailed Jeff.

I have since then, stripped the coating and realigned the edge, first on a belt sander and then with my DMT, since this is my only knife at farm.

You have a farm and only 1 knife?? I have more than that in my glove box :D

Yeah! Here in India, the scenario is different. I am an IT guy but i have some ancestral land that people of the village work on and get paid for. They get paid money equal to the cost of an RC3 per month, hence, they cant afford such knives, they usually work with locally made equipment. I visit the farm occasionally to oversee the work. Hence, I have no use of a knife but still i have an RC3 there for general tasks i might end up doing when i stay there for more than a day.

I see I thought you worked on the farm. I use my Rc3 to cut my Cat 5 when I need to add more cable :D

Call Ontario. If it was a failure of manufacturing you might be in luck. If it was in use/abuse otherwise you might be out of luck.
I haven't broken it, I just wanted to know before I started using it.

I think your answer answers my question, though.

Our customers mean EVERYTHING to us. The Rowens, Mike, Patricia, the moderators here, and everyone associated with ESEE and Randall's Adventure & Training feel that way. If they don't then none of will keep the doors open and we will all go fishing and say to hell with his business.

This is outstanding...

How can a testimony of a customer chipping a knife be good!!! ??

Well; because of the service and most importantly; the type of people behind the company....

I see stuff like this; and so what if it doesn't apply to me... It makes me glad to have given THEM my business

Not to mention the awesome knives (which didn't fail catastrophically from what I read)

Awesome... Just awesome...
