hi, thought i would post some pics of the snake i killed in my pasture this afternoon. its that time of year when i mow and fertilize the pastures for the year. so it was my wifes turn on the tractor and she called me on the cell. to come quick and kill a big snake. trot out there with my trusty rc 6 and a 45. well it wasn't poisonousness but it was large i killed it with the rc6.

so on to the pics, the snakes just over 5ft long.

Why do people needlessly kill snakes, particularly people with crops that are devoured by rodents?

Please remember the many benefits that snakes provide. Snakes kill and eat a variety of rodents and other pests. Some of the pests could transmit diseases to humans. Although snakes cannot eliminate these pests, they do help control their numbers. Many other species of animals as well as raptors utilize snakes as a source of food. Snakes--poisonous and non-poisonous--are helpful in many ways to humans and are an important part of our natural environment.

yep, let it live so it can keep the vermin at bay...

Dave doesn't have crops. He does have children, pets and livestock all of which would see very little benefit from a snake bite.

In the environment that this snake found itself in it became a pest and was eliminated as such. This is the unfortunate reality of the country lifestyle.

yup, i agree. it 's on cricketdave's land though and he can do what he wants :o hopefully next time he'll reconsider...or at least send the meat to me. i'll grill that right up :p

by the way, snakes are venomous (injected as opposed to poisonous which is ingested) :D
