rc6 vs snake

that kind isn't normally eaten?

i would guess he thinks of snakes as i think of spiders. they are both our friends, and keep the pests under control. i leave spiders alone outside, and even in the garage. but when one of those critters finds its way inside, its going in the toilet.

in response to the live and let live comments. i generally only kill the venomous snakes. usually around 80 copperheads and rattlers a year. i am aware that they keep down rodents. so do the cats. i have horses that i spend a lot of time working with and riding, they don't like snakes of any sort, so if i find one near the arena its a gonner. my wife freaks out if she sees a snake of any kind once again the snake is gonna loose. my personal feeling is live and let live when i can. but get too close to the house, arena, horses or wife and well your gonna be a dead snake.

Dave doesn't have crops. He does have children, pets and livestock all of which would see very little benefit from a snake bite.

In the environment that this snake found itself in it became a pest and was eliminated as such. This is the unfortunate reality of the country lifestyle.

Dave can do what he wants, but that's really a weak justification IMHO.
The rats/vermin that snake eats pose far more danger to children, pets, and livestock - especially since the snake wasn't venomous. If his wife was wrapped in its ever-tightening embrace when Dave arrived on-scene, you might have a valid point. lol

You're right about one thing though, that is the unfortunate reality of the country lifestyle.

Slightly off topic but I was curious about the scales on the RC6? Are they available somewhere for sale or are they DIY modification? They look great and functional at the same time. Thanks for any info.

truly not trying to justify anything. i kill pests when i need to, i have a bunch of barn cats that do the same. however if you want to peacefully coexist with rattlesnakes under your porch with kids well i welcome anyone to try it. no that snake in the photos is not a venomous snake its a texas rat snake just trying to get by.

however i will now be able to rest without the sound of my wife nagging me into oblivion for the night.

You say you killed the snake with your RC-6, but I can't tell how from the pictures. Did you cut its head off, skewer it, or slap it silly with the flat of the blade? I'm just a bit curious. Thanks.

Dave you're such a badass it isn't even funny. The only thing that could make that pic better was if you were wearing your .45 on your belt.

lol adam. by the time i got ellie to take pics i had put it back in the night stand.

I disagree - I think it's an excellent justification, just not one you would take.
horses are a high dollar investment. (almost as expensive at wives & children)
if a snake that size bites, it's going to cause damage, even if it's not venomous. (at that size, even without biting, it's a trip hazard, as well)
If it spooks a horse that's being led or ridden, something other than just the snake will be injured. (horse, rider, person leading it, or any combination of the 3)

I'm on the edge of rattler country where I live, and if I saw something that size on the house half of the property, I'd be likely to end any perceived threat in a similar - or more violent manner, then figure out if it were poisonous or not.
YMMV, but that's one of the advantages to living in a free country.

Well, while I would probably just move the bugger, sounds like Dave has thought it through (not that it deserves a ton of thought) and made a decision on how to handle these critters.

That snakeskin would look great on the front of a leather sheath.

So the snake ended up with 2 RATs in him at the same time.

Ironic. ;)

Snakes are like a box of chocolates......... or was it a pinata?
Either way, there's almost always a prize inside.

Great pics.

Cool pics but why kill a non posionus snake?
did you see the size of the Rat that you cut out ? he was working in your favor & Keeps the Wife needing you too :D

You can skin it and pee in it and it will hold the pee like a canteen........tie off the end and wrap it around your neck to drink later.....I saw Bear Grylls do it:rolleyes:
