RCCC Les Robertson

Anthony, and Talon(and everybody else).....

I'll start a new thread on Loveless and the AKI. Talon, in that thread I will include a hyperlink to my review of the AKI last year, peruse it at your leisure.

1. I think Les is a pretty good guy. He can be more than a little, as many in this hobby are, arrogant, and pushy. This is offset by the fact that he gives a fair deal, is good for the industry as a whole, and is not looking to make a quick buck, and burn the field. Anthony and I disagree steadfastly about KnifeArt, and I am loathe to put RCCC and KA in the same sentence, but we do both agree that Les is solid.

If Les got banned from BF, while I was not here to witness it, I can say that he probably deserved it. I predicate this observation on RD not being banned, and about 5 other people that I can think of in the last month that have pushed the limits of tolerance and bad taste to a new high, and they are still "welcome". Of the many moderated forums that I have been on, BladeForums is the MOST tolerant of inflammatory and juvenile behavior (got that, Real Dud?)

2. I have seen the many sides of R.W. Loveless. He can be abrasive, he can be curmudgeonly, and he can be infinitely charming. I like him. If you had to say that he was a "good" guy or a "bad" guy, I would say it depends upon what time of day you catch him. Unless you purchase VERY poorly, you probably will not lose money on your "investment". (Sorry, Joss):D

Anthony, I think you are a "good" guy, but I went through the hassle of scanning some knives, and sending you an e-mail, because you were interested in trading. Then your wife had a child, and you got sidetracked. Should I think you are a "bad" guy because you never got back to me? No, I think we have to let LIFE happen in the way that it was meant to, and not be such pricks to each other all the time.

3. Mike Lovett, you know I like you, but you get too fired up over stupid crap sometimes. You should be making knives like it is a religious persuit, and posting less. The posting that you have done in this thread reeks of a personal issue/issues with Les that you should deal with, offline. Les is entitled to speak his mind, when and where he can, same as you. Since your last name is Lovett, and not Loveless, it seems to me that you should be worried about the stuff that has your name on it. There are plenty who will champion the Loveless name, because, no matter how any one individual feels, Loveless is, and probably will be, arguably(I will always say this) the most famous knifemaker in the world.

Thanks,

STeven Garsson

WOW! What a bizarre thread.

So here are my $0.02 (at this length probably more like $1.50)

WWG:
From the posts I have read, WWG usually has something interesting to say. As to Les R. (whom WWG seems to be), I don’t know the history of Les Robertson or his personality. He runs a decent website with some interesting knives. I am sure he has plenty of knowledge and something to teach. Does that mean his opinion is cast in gold? Not to me. I am open-minded enough to listen but also independent enough to form my own opinions. And everyone has something to learn (unless you are God). As to being banned, that seems to be a personal decision by those who own the forum. I don’t really agree with it as a forum as large as this should probably be void of personal decisions for banning. Also, by nature forums ought to be open to everyone’s opinion, no matter how much they bother others. It’s not going to stop me from being a member though. There is plenty of good info here. One person missing doesn’t make it less useful for the rest of us.

RealDeal:
The posts are a bitch to read. He should really learn how to type (I assume RD is a “he”). Other than that, I don’t get annoyed by what he says. I don’t even get bothered. Neither should any of you. A: This is a forum; everyone is entitled to their opinion, and everyone else is entitled to not care about that opinion. B: Life is too short to be annoyed by this.

Loveless:
I have only studied up on Loveless knives and related types for about 1 year now. I am surprised that others didn’t know that Jim M. made a lot of the knives over the last X years. I deduced this shortly after I became interested in the knives. I do agree that it would be good to have the knives marked showing both names. I can see the future discussions Joss talked about with respect to which knife was made by Loveless and which was made by both. I also agree that this could affect the price of a given knife. Of course, I think it is ludicrous anyway that a knife without gold, gems or other such embellishments can even get close to $25K. But we live in a capitalistic society and prices are driven by supply and demand. Me, I have a few Loveless-style knives on order from different makers and am looking forward to getting them. The designs of the fighter-type knives really appeal to me.

Lovett:
I don’t think Mike forgot to take his meds. He has his friends and work and he has every right to defend both. I don’t think it is irrelevant that he gets his direct input from Bob L. and Jim M. – I think it makes his knives a great continuation of the Loveless style into the future after Bob L. and Jim M. stop making them. I also think that it is completely f**ked up to call the decline and death of a parent just another event. It is one of the most important and difficult events in ones life. If you haven’t been through it you don’t know what the hell you are talking about. So hats off to Mike for having the decency and sense to put family before business. It is always the right decision.

Final:
I am amazed this thread hasn’t been terminated.

A simple email would have sufficed, Steven. It would have probably taken less time than this post.

I have come to the conclusion that there must be a higher than average incidence of Asperger's syndrome in the custom knife world

AS is characterized by:[4][5]

Limited interests or preoccupation with a subject to the exclusion of other activities;
Repetitive behaviors or rituals;
Peculiarities in speech and language;
Socially and emotionally inappropriate behavior and interpersonal interaction;
Problems with nonverbal communication; and
Clumsy and uncoordinated motor movements.

Thought this would be helpful.:eek:

Your right Stephen. I'm sitting here with a bit of a tooth ache, and a little loopy. ( I hate anti- biotics) I guess I'm a little grumpy! Dave, Thank you so much! Thor, very thoughtful, and I "DO" appreciate it. And yes, I do get my short hairs up when someone goes after Bob, and especially Jim. Thanks Guy's! Mike

Now wait just a minute here! I am very confussed. :confused: Am I supposed to self-ban, my, ummmm, self or not? And, if I do self-ban my self, does that mean I'm still here? All this confussion really upsets me, but then again, I'm not DorkOps, oops, I mean RealDeal, I'm not even a good deal. :jerkit: :D
