Re: Any crossfitters / WOD folks on the forum?

I don't do cross fit or hiit, but I workout 6 or 7 days a week cardio everyday. Today I'm tired, so it's just cardio. I think pressing my already stressed muscles would be counter productive. Plus I'm in a cutting phase right now so I hate everything and everyone :D. Only 4 weeks to go though

Usually I'll do a circuit of 5 or 6 exercises 5x5 and then do ab work separately. And I use a three day split with one day off a week, but I'm still messing around with it.

I can post my daily routines if anyone is interested.

Personally, I'd stay far away from crossfit. Many routines that I have seen are very dangerous and encourage fast lifts in lifts that shouldn't be rushed. A standard routine with weight lifting and cardio is much safer. I've seen many back injuries from people doing things like "20 deadlifts followed by 20 snatches".

This is general to main site WODs and cookie-cutter Crossfit boxes. There do exists decent affiliates and ex-affiliates that have sensible programming and O-lifting coaches with real experience. But I have not paid much attention to Crossfit in years so things may have changed.

The group fitness culture isn't for everyone but it has motivated many individuals to get off their butt injuries not withstanding. It's a lucrative business.

People I like to follow: Ross Enamait, Dan John, Chris Sommer, Mike Tuchscherer, Bryce Lane plus a lot of knowledgeable people I've met online over the years.

Thanks for all of the insight folks; glad that some of you were interested!

@ Thurin&Vance - I'm digging your workout plans! ;)

Today - 5k hill(y) run, goal <25min. This one hurts the quads BAD!

I don't think I can recommend Ross Enamait enough for individual strength/conditioning knowledge with minimal to no equipment. Aside from his books and videos he posts up a lot of quick and effective conditioning routines on his blog/forums for any interested http://rosstraining.com/blog/

Worth looking into for a few new metcons.

Rogue home gym. Follow main site. I hit chest on off days and run every other Saturday.

Love crossfit! Done it for two years now! Been off for a month, just moved, but I found a new box this week! Time to take on the girls again!

Just FYI in crossfit, a lot do the workouts are named after girls....that was not meant to be a sexist remark above.

You can get hurt doing any kind of fitness program. You have to be smart about what your are doing. Scaling WOD's back for beginners and for people not yet accustomed to the movements are where good CF trainers are suppose to step in and scale you back to a more comfortable rep scheme/weight. You yourself need to use common sense also. If the WOD calls for 95# RX and you know that will be heavy, drop the weight back to 65# for example. 20 deadlifts followed by 20 snatches sounds perfectly fine, depending on the experience level/strength of the athlete. I would never program those 2 movements together at a heavy weight as they are both big pulling movements. A lighter weight such as 95# for an experienced oly lifter/crossfitter would easily doable, and doable fast.

I have worked out my entire life, just about any and all different ways, Crossfit is by far the best I have ever participated in. It isn't for everyone, but as a retired professional athlete, I am in better physical fitness now than I was during my professional playing career. That says something about Crossfit programs, at least in my eyes it does.

Good luck in your training!

Awesome post Bapple and good advicefor all with regards to applying common sense with regards to weight/reps; especially when it comes to CF exercises!
