I have to vent, sorry.

Member Portlandreign81 sold me a Todd Begg Carbon Fiber/Titanium Bodega on another site for a too good to be true price and this is the story.

I saw a Todd Begg Carbon Fiber/Titanium Bodega pop-up on another site for $775.00 (not a Field Grade, the good stuff) and turned to my wife immediately to say "this is too good to be true" but I bought it anyhow. I contacted Portlandreign81 (seller from now on) immediately thinking that something would go wrong, it had to. I thought to myself that he was going to back out because he appears to be a person who understands the value of this knife and this transaction doesn't make sense. But being that I had the money laying around I thought I would roll the dice and I did this only because I have taken chances like this in the past and always fared well. After I purchased the knife the seller directed me to his Instagram page where he said he had more photos of the knife. I went and saw many photos, nothing recent but 3, 4 or 5 nice shots of him holding this CF Bodega. I was stoked, thinking I had walked away with a screaming deal. I love Bodegas and have been carrying a very nice Field Grade with a hand rubbed blade for a while. Meanwhile I was negotiating a trade for a Dalibor Bergam Sirius and the person I was working with wanted my FG Bodega. I thought, why not I have a CF Bodega on its way to my home right now and I conceded to including the FG Bodega as part of the trade.

I was told by "The Seller" that I would receive tracking information on Monday for the CF Bodega, Monday came and gone without any notification. I sent the seller a message on Tuesday requesting tracking information and a day passed before he responded with "I can't find the Bodega along with 3 other knives". This was a moment of clarity and I remember thinking before that one day this would happen, this guy just gave himself a loan and he did it with my money. He assured me would search for the knife but at this point I knew I was done with him. I found a pending refund from him on PayPal, wrote the whole experience off including trading my beloved FG Bodega (w/hand rubbed satin blade... it was beautiful. I loved it). I decided, oh well I will find another one day & it wasn't meant to be, all of that stuff you think when you give up.

A few more days pass and I almost have forgotten about the entire incident and then I notice the PayPal refund is still at pending status, it had not funded, WTF ??? Another day passes and I receive an email from PP stating that "The Seller" (Portlandreign81 to be clear) had refunded with a bad check. I immediately contact the site administration/buy protection from the site where the transaction took place and they assured me if The Seller did not fund within the next week they would reimburse me directly and pursue The Seller using their own resources. I felt better knowing that I was going to be refunded while the same people refunding me were going after this loser who defrauded me.

I started searching around the internet and low and behold I come to find that The Seller sold this same carbon fiber Bodega right here on Blade Forums TWO YEARS AGO.. the entire transaction was a scam just as I suspected, what was this guy thinking? Drugs? Prostitution? who knows but I see his IG page, Facebook, BF transaction for years and can't figure out how a guy who seems to be "normal", has a wife and a little girl can be such a "bad guy" for lack of a better word. why would a seemingly normal functioning human being scam somebody like this and out of the blue. He did have a few bad marks for other transactions here on BF but nothing major and nothing out of whack anywhere else. the guy just woke up and decided to take somebodies money? He needed $775.00 so badly that he would take it from anybody that answered his ad? thoughts? anyone? anyone know where I can find a decent priced Bodega without paying through the nose or waiting 6 years? Portlandreign81 AKA Luke, what happened to you? comments?

Good vent but, really, the only takeaway is the most important take away: ALWAYS, ALWAYS use goods & services. Well done.

If I may be so bold....the story here is nothing that happens on "another site" is something to be posted here. If you had a bad dealing with him on the forum....please post that. I've dealt with this guy on the forum and found him to be scummy......just not to the point of doing a deal with him. I'm not poo-pooing your information.......just know that "outside" dealings have a somewhat limited impact here.

What are you talking about? Portlandreign81 is an active member on Blade Forums. The fact that he scammed another Blade Forums member is hugely relevant.

OK, but the transaction didn't take place on bladeforums. What is his feedback rating.....what has he done on the forums?? I thought outside transactions....while informative....didn't trump what was done on the forum?? I'm not a fan of the guy.....just trying to modulate the outside interference.

I don't think the OP was trying to trump anything, but instead just add his experience. It's up to us the readers to determine what effect it has on us dealing with the seller.

I disagree. If somebody has a bad deal anywhere with somebody who is a member on this forum, I very much appreciate them reporting it here. That way when I do a forum search of a potential seller or buyer I have fair warning prior to dealing with them.

I think you're right that there should be some limit (for example, this forum shouldn't be a place for BF members to complain about bad transactions with non-BF members), but I think when it involves two active BF members it should be fair game, even when the transaction was elsewhere. But as far as I know, the rules do not cover this point. Sorry for coming off harsh in my first reply, I'm just passionate!

I checked portlandreign81's feedback....it was 100% minus the feedback that happened on another site. Didn't think you could provide feedback on a transaction that happened outside of BF?? Again.....not a portlandreign81 fanboy......just didn't think the outside transaction trumped BF-specific things. If I'm wrong.......lesson learned.....just asking??

No offense my friend......I like your information. I've always been confused about what constitutes BF-worth infractions or information. I don't like the dude....it is as simple as that. However, I'm trying to determine what is acceptable and not.....nothing more. I actually would appreciate outside details here......wasn't sure that you could post them??

Hammer

His feedback was NOT 100% before this incident.

Is this guy a chef or cook of some type? I'm pretty sure it's the same person but I purchased a JB Stout folder from him off of IG and when I received it, the knife was filled with sand. SAND as in I just went to the beach and then straight to the post office. Even when getting hosed, I don't think I've ever posted a complaint...and this was on IG like 1.5 to 2 years ago. But seeing the name brought back memories. In the end I simply disassembled the knife and it was fine but sand against steel on a piece you intend to add to a collection, is kind of a shocker.

There is no problem with you asking the question. I'm trying to understand what you are saying though. Are you saying that if he posted that Bodega for sale on BF today, you would buy it because his BF history trumps?

He had another negative feedback from 2012.

Yea, I don't know how or what thread he used to leave iTrader feedback from the deal that happened elsewhere and I don't believe that's kosher.

The OP posting a thread here in the GBU is the correct way to go about it, especially since both are members here. All he is doing is sharing a poor experience with a seller as a warning to others which is very much appreciated.

Now, if the deal happened elsewhere and he came here looking for a resolution that would be a bit different and wouldn't fly too well.

OP lists this as happening on another site......there-in lies my problem. Whether these are BF members or not......I just can't figure out what I'm supposed to post??
