Reacquainting myself with items in my collection...

I liked that Case Hobo, a few pages back, so much that I...

Being 'Labor Day', and having the day off, I didn't want to get too involved with anything that may resemble actual work.
That said, I did pick out this Buck 120 'General' for some routine maintenance this morning. I gave it the Renaissance Wax treatment.

Although I do like the look of the aluminum used on my Buck 119 'Special' knives, I think the Brass goes extremely well with the reddish stained laminated Birch wood used on this model.

Imo, Buck simply hit the sweet spot with these Bowie type knives... Although the overall build is a simple one, they incorporate good quality and a nice pinch of styling to it.
I'd bet that these knives would have been big hits during the mid to late 1800's if they had been available back then.

This one just received a lighty oiled cloth wipe down.

It's an oddity in my collection I picked up a few years ago for $5 at the local flea market.
Made in USA between 1947 to 1952, it's not a specimen that I was able to find out much about.
It's blade locking mechanism is what makes it quite unique, and I believe the knife is actually quite on the rare side of things.

Somewhere online I was able to find this diagram for it's patent...

Pretty neat... Now you HAVE to make a video!!!!! 🤔. I do enjoy your explanation for each piece and group...
Much appreciated!!!

I received this A.G. Russell Bowie knife in my mail today, (actually, it arrived via UPS).
It's a 1990'ish vintage knife that was made in Solingen Germany under AG Russell contract.
It's obviously in unused condition, and will continue being that way while it's in my possession.
I went ahead and gave it's sheath a full Ren Wax treatment, after my having removed a wee bit of tarnish that 30 years of existence allowed it to form on it's brass snaps and brass reinforcement rivets.

I also removed a tiny bit of tarnish on the knife's brass pommel and guard, only needing a fine jewelry cloth to achieve that mission.
I then Ren Waxed the entire knife.

AG Russell's knife selling business still exists, but Mr. Russell did pass away a few years back.
Even before his passing, he had moved most of his contracted knife manufacturing to China and Taiwan.
Years ago he had some of his coolest and best made "AG Russell" knives produced in Solingen Germany. The cost of having them made there was rising too steeply, and many of the manufacturers there were starting to go out business, or themselves going to Asia for their products, so AG Russell's Germany connection went DoDo Bird.

These types of knives are now a thing of the past.

I'm totally pleased with this new acquisition... I love everything about it!

Your collection is impressive! Thanks for sharing.
Also, thanks for the Ren. wax tip. I’m waxing pens, watches, knives…I love the stuff!

Sweet....still wondering if I should've pounced on this one a short while ago. Auction ended at ~140. Love a nice dagger, got a bunch of 'em, but this one didn't really ring my bell right off. Oh well, no use dwelling on passed auctions, got a Böker Feuerzauber 5.5 a few days later anyway (stay tuned for pics in one of the appropriate threads).

That AG Russell dagger would have been a nice pick-up.
Although my Bowie doesn't have the 'Othello/Anton Wingen' German Cutlery marking that's on that dagger in your picture, I do believe that it's the same firm that AG Russell contracted to make the Bowie.
Othello/Anton Wingen was known for their use of forgings to make their products, (blades and complete knives).

Solingen's previously thriving knife making market, is now mostly a thing of the past. It's why I have acquired more vintage specimens from that once very famous knife region of the world 👍

What’s that copper thing in the right hand of the box?
I went ahead and played some musical chairs with the contents of this display, and placed my newly acquired AG Russell branded Bowie within it.
The display does have one of my Sheffield made pewter hip flasks...

Here are just a few more of the flasks I own, including a couple more of the tin lined Bromwell's, (one in copper, the other in brass), and a couple Sheffield made pewter flasks that are shaped as male and female torsos...
