Ive been looking at RAT cutlery for a while, and Im ready to buy one. I was just wondering which one would be a good first RAT. I know their all great, but if you could only have one, which one would it be? I know myself well enough to understand that i WILL buy them all, but to keep my wife from freaking out:mad:, Im only gonna buy one to start.:(

:D Izula, it is nice and small, easy to customize the paracord wrap the way you want it, your wife wont freak out and after her using it she will probably want one in pink spreading the addiction, it rides comfortably in the pocket, it can take one heck of a beating, it is a good small utility fixed blade, and it makes a great food prep knife.

Of course this all depends on what you are looking for in a RAT. If you want and EDC blade then I would recommend the Izula and RC-3. If you want a blade for camping and hiking then I would recommend the RC-4 and RC-3. If you want a large blade then I would recommend the RC-6. And if you want a tank of a knife that you can trust to take a heck of a beating and keep on asking for more then I would recommend the RC-5.

I went through the same thought process a while back and decided on the Izula. It is a fantastic knife for the money and I now carry it daily in my back pocket. Less than a week after I received the Izula, I ordered an RC-4. Again, it is a fantastic knife and it resides in my EDC backpack. I am now trying to decide what my next RAT purchase will be ... I leaning real hard towards the the RC-3 MIL, but then there's the RC-5. Go ahead a pick any of them, you simply cannot go wrong.

I think Im gonna go with the Izula, and the RC-5. I can probably get away with buying those 2. Im gonna show her the pink Izula and tell her that it would be romantic for us to have matching knives.:D So I may end up buying 3 to start...... Oh well.

There you go , also don't worry about the sheath of the Izula being a little hard to pull the Izula out, they all are like that and they get easier and easier.

I will post pics as soon as I get them. Also I wanted to say thanks to all the great members on this forum, I really feel at home here. I have been in other knife forums where some of the members wont take the time to respond to new members:(. Yall are great!!!!

THANKS

:D I always enjoy checking out pics, I believe Rat Cutlery has a photo contest going, they may have stopped it though so I'm not for sure.

I am going to say RC-4.

I love the balance and blade on it. It is big enough to do almost anything and yet still nimble and light.

:) It is my favorite in the line.

I love the Izula, but if I had to have just one it would be the RC-4.

And an Izula.

Or two.

:D

Im taking a closer look at the RC-4, but I know for sure that I will be getting an Izula.

RC4 is lighter, has a thinner blade, probably cheaper, and is more suited for a variety of tasks than the RC-5.

At least that is just my opinion on it.

I have the Izula, RC4 and just got the RC5. They are all great knives, however, when I pulled the 5 out of the sheath for the first time it took my friggin breath away. What a beautiful knife! I've seen them all and the 5 is just really gorgeous.

I guess it sounds like I'm talking about a woman but in the knife world the 5 is a 10.

friej

If I could only have one RAT, gawd that's a terrible thought, it would be the RC-4. It's simply a well rounded "do-all" knife. I use mine in the kitchen all the time and whenever I go camping it's on my side.

It really depends on what you will be using the knife for. If you just want a general purpose EDC, go with the RC-3. I don't know if you hunt deer, but the RC-3 is great for deer preparation as well. If you are wanting it for general outdoor use including camping, hunting hiking etc., go with the RC-4. If you have some REALLY HEAVY duty chores & want a knife that will stand up to a nuclear attack, get the RC-5.

Of course the Izula is just plain handy anywhere!

Excellent advice! The RC-3 will work great for just about everything. And the RC-5 is bomb-proof! :D

My first RAT was the RC 4, and I believe that to be the best first blade for any new RAT customers ;)
