Ready for my first RAT, but which one?

The Izula was my first Rat.It's the one I carry and use everyday.I've since bought the 3and 4,have'nt used either one yet. Most likely, will use the RC3 when I go fishing, and the RC4 when hunting season starts. When the Rat chopper comes out, later this year,I'll order one of those.Rowen has their 1095 down to perfection!

Thanks guys, I have a bunch of great info. to think about. I usally go for the toughest knives, so i'm leaning toward the RC-5. But with that said, I truly feel that no matter which one I get ,It will only be the first of many.;)

:D Heck if you manage to break one through normal use I would be shocked, they are all (including the Izula) tough knives. Do you know about The Rat Cutlery warranty?

For a great EDC, do everything knife it's hard to beat an RC-3

Fits the hand, not too big, but tough as nails = RC-3 :D

Jeff and Mike are really good on their warranty issues. Basically, if you can break it under normal use, they'll replace it.

Also, I have seen a couple of places to buy from. Who do yall recomend? I want to make sure that im buying from a reputable company, someone who I can build a relationship with for future purchases as well.

Actually, they'll replace it if you smash the knife tip into a marble counter top because you were frustrated with your math homework. That was the case with one of the users around here not too long ago. SO pretty much if you break it doing anything "normal" or lets say.. unusual, you're pretty much golden.

Izula is a very different knife and not everyones. I just made the same decision and bought my first RAT. I decided on the Orange RC 4. Not too small and not too big, Perfect.

My first Rat was an OD Izula, my second was a TanIzula my third was going to be an Izula I was planning to strip down.....

but I got the chance to play with a 4 the other day

I have a tan one on order :D

RC-3 has my vote as an introductory purchase. The size makes it an easy EDC for most environments and its utility is hard to match unless you are in a field setting - even then it holds its own.

The folks at Knifeworks.com have been very good to me

If you break your knife digging out of reinforced concrete in a Turkish prison, RAT wants it back to see WHY and how to make it better. THAT'S quality ;)

I haven't gotten to hadle them all just the 3 and 4. Either will make a great first purchase. I got a 4 and was absolutely amazed at it. I really like it. And when I get it back from my brother I plan to use it often. All that said, the 3 seems even a little handier as an all around EDC type knife and that is what I bought for my nephew who is in the military. Its what I'll probably get for myself as well, since my brother won't give me the 4 back. :-)

I'm just gonna buy them all and be done with it. I can think of several situations where I would need every one of those knives.... Oh well I guess I can sleep on the couch for a couple of days.:D

:D Just hide them in with your socks, and pull a new one out every few days.

As for reputable dealers I recommend TKC, Two wolves, Knivesship free, and New Graham.

Here is their warranty,

No Questions Asked Warranty. If you screw it up, break it, or cut it in two with a cutting torch, send it back and we'll replace it. Warranty is transferable. In other words, we warranty the knife no matter how many times it's been traded, sold or given away. We don't ask for a sales receipt, date of purchase or where you bought the knife - No fine print and no hassles. If you have a problem, contact us.

Note: You MUST complete this form and return it with your knife. You must email us a tracking number when you ship the knife..

We do not warranty against rust or normal wear and tear. Note: Our knives are made from high carbon 1095 steel. And while 1095 is a top choice for professional cutlery designed for hard use, it will rust and stain if not properly cared for - especially on the cutting edge and around the laser engraving. It is the user's responsibility to keep the blades properly lubricated and cleaned. We suggest using a dry film rust inhibitor such as TUF-GLIDE or TUF-CLOTH.

A lot of folks have asked us how we can stay in business offering such great customer service and warranty protection. The answer is simple; we believe that American consumers, as a whole, are honest people. The occasional customers who are dishonest are few and far between, so even if we lose every once in a while due to dishonesty, our reputation of great customer service, regardless of the situation, brings us more good customers.

First get the RC-5 then the HEST then the REST!!! Can't just get one must get the whole family!!!
