Real and fake knives

Now, if you could do something about the frickin' 15 e-mails I had back and forth with Spark yesterday, that would really be special.

Got it. The rule has been upgraded: Members may not knowingly sell unlicensed knockoffs or counterfeit versions of knives (or any other goods)

Does that include all Sanrenmu, Enlan, Navy, and Bee knives? Those companies make knock offs of Spyderco, Benchmade, and others.

By the way, we have a new rule in the Exchange here, as of late last night.

That should solve a lot of the problems. (I'm working on getting watches added to that also.)

Noone is not a word. It should be no one. Two words.

Samael thats great news and keep up the good work.:thumbup:

I'd love to take all the credit, but lots of other people were involved too.

Yeah. Tell that to Spark. Go ahead, I dare you.

"Fakes/Homages: As fakes and homage items are a legal gray area and obviously hurt the hobby, no fake or homage items may be sold on the Exchange. Members may not knowingly sell unlicensed knockoffs or counterfeit versions of knives (or any other goods) based upon the designs of their legitimate owner, manufacturer or custom maker. Additionally, members may not sell any knife or item known or suspected to be other than as described in terms of its lineage and authenticity."

He wrote members in place of "noone" so there's nothing to correct there. However he did write "Knifemaker's" when he should have written Knifemakers. Using an apostrophe to denote plurality is a common mistake.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with this. Fakes will always be around no matter what and that's just the sad truth. Although, I am 99% sure the SMF in the link is not one of them. Just looks like and older generation version to me. The finish has been sanded or otherwise stripped though. The lock bar stabilizer is heat treated...definitely not painted and also has the correct Hinderer stamp on it. I don't think you have done quite enough research. ;)
The older models did have the stamps on the blade but not a hinderer stabilizer. only gen 3 and after have a stabalizer and those have only the strider logo and blade s30v. so i'm sorry but you are the one who needs to do more research.

It looked a lot like this one but with the stripes removed.

U.S. customs allows a small amount of knock-offs to be brought in per person, counterfeit is different. What sucks is all the reviews on youtube that state, the $80 fake strider is a GREAT $80 knife. I don't ever see me being able to spend $400+ for a folding knife, wish strider would lease the right to make $80-$100 (budget ?) version.

We're in General here; gotta keep it fairly clean. But really, you don't want to be giving your money to Mick anyway. Trust me on this.

The fact that we're having this discussion (and this isn't the only place it's being talked about) is what led to the rule change I referred to. Go ahead and be oblivious if you want to; I'd rather hit the issue head-on and deal with it. Which is exactly what's happening here.

I am glad for the fakes thread in the Spyderco section. This gave me knowledge on what to look for when I may be surfing the bay ect. Nice rule change as well.

By "stamp" I was referring to the word Hinderer on the actual lockbar stop which usually is not present on fakes. You also stated the lock stop is painted- it's not. All Striders have had the stamp on the blades although, again, that's not what I was referring to. The newer generations do not say Hinderer on the stop so that is most likely a REAL gen 3 or 4 SnG. I'm sure there are many more people here that will agree with me than people who would think that is a fake.

Well, it's really pretty simple. Rick's a member here — just ask him. Til then, if you think it's a fake, it probably is. And we're now at zero tolerance for that kind of hooey.

Like I said, I'm 99.9% positive its the real deal. I just feel that people shouldn't spread mis-information. There's enough fakes out there already- no need to label legit pieces as fakes and confuse people even further.

Ive even started seeing fake spyderco UKPK's appear on local auction sites, I think most 'knife people' could quite easily spot them as fake, so the companies wont initially be loosing alot of coin, but if joe blogs goes and buys a POS copy for 5 bucks it will tarnish the reputation of the company down the line when they are sold as "genuine".

I actually hit the "report" button on that post, but figured you're smart enough to edit your post for language without a formal warning. Please do.

Sorry, this is quite a broad forum and after being greeted with an anatomy lesson in the first thread I opened, and seeing blatant swearing and colourful vocabulary everywhere.. I also would of figured a word filter would be used where appropriate, will try not to assume as much in future.
