Real men carry slippies.

I think slipjoints and one-hand-opening/locking/pocket-clip-knives (Spyderco, for me) complement each other nicely. I carry a SAK, and a Spyderco all the time. I appreciate the SAK for being compact, easily pocketable, having multiple blades, & being non-scary.

I also consider a pocket clip very convenient, enjoy the ease of one-hand opening, and ergonomics of a Spyderco. I also like serrations and the variety of steels offered.

All good, just different.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. Kamagong and Vivi, JKM lived in CA and was a real big fan of small fixed blades and didn’t have any problem carrying them. But, James was a real man and could do a lot of things the rest of us can’t.

^^ point well taken, and you have my apologies if they're owed, which I now suspect they are.

For the record, I know one doesn't cut with the spine, but you know how sometimes you've gone to cut something, pressed real hard, and slipped and the side of the knife may have hit something and it closed a bit and cut you? That's what I meant. And yeah, I don't think anyone, self included, would really deny carrying a slipjoint is not manly as who hasn't, right?

Anyhow, not trying to create waves should be my main point, as opposed to backpedalling, which I guess I've just done a bit of.

Enough rambling on my part. I'm apologising here; we all know it ain't easy.

Yes he did. But I don't know if he carried small fixed blades. I do remember him using aggresively-named knives in a peaceful manner and enjoying it as he did so.

He was well aware of CA's ridiculous laws and even noted that while concealed carry of a knife like the REKAT Sifu was perfectly legal, concealed carry of a 1 1/2" fixed will get you in trouble.

Better quit while you are ahead.
Take some time to see what this forum is about. There seems to be a misinterpretation of what is behind this particular thread.

You can count on me not putting up with posts that will degrade this forum.
(That includes "smartassness".)

Saw your Private Message after submitting my second post here. Despite reading otherwise in the FAQ, my message page didn't have a "reply to this private message" button, anywhere, so couldn't respond directly.

For the record, I edited the original post, and am not here to "troll" (?) or stir a pot at all. Was just 'havin' a go', as they say. Should be evidenced in my original "great thread.... Thanks" comment, I hope.

Over and out. Thanks for understanding.

If everyone keeps pushing real hard you're gonna pop a vein in someone's head, and that's just not so good. I'm going to open a box of Jiffy Cornbread with my slipjoint and watch the ice build up on the trees. Peace to all, and Merry Christmas

We are good.

Just want folks to understand that pot-shots have a zero tolerance level in this sub-forum. That is just not what we are about at all.

Vivi had no business doing what he did to stir up trouble.

My apologies to Bastid and the regulars of this forum. I made the post to get more viewpoints from people who prefer tacticals to compare their sentiments with those who prefer traditionals, not to stir up trouble. I have much respect for this particular subforum and have no desire to degrade this place to name-calling and heated arguements. I'll be taking a short break from posting here and will lurk for the time being instead.

Mike

No need to do that Vivi. We're all men here and sometimes we get a little heated in our disagreements. This was an unfortunate incident, but I'm pretty sure we can get past it. Whether or not you participate is your business; I for one don't think anything is gained from your absence.

This is a really interesting thread. I find it thought provoking and informative. Doesn't get much better than that. My thanks to ElCuchillo for posting it. Gotta' love a guy that wrestles alligators for a living and carries a Case peanut or a small SAK.

I wore a leather carpenters apron for a lot of years in the past (Nat'l. Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, journeyman class of 1974 :).) I always had a Case stockman or whittler in my belt next to the small nail set pockets (wish I had them now). As a trim carpenter, my whittler helped ease and join many a piece of white pine, poplar, cypress, oak, and cherry molding into place.

One of the coolest things about the Traditional forum is that the threads almost always seems to stay harmonically balanced, despite the challenging terrain, and find their way through the uphills, and across the divides. Reminds me of the great old locomotives of the early American routes...solid, reliable, plenty of steam, lots of well tended iron, and cowcatchers when needed.
My hat's off to the great "conductors" we have here.

Enough of my "toot toot". :) Wish you all the best of the holiday season.

If you think because you carry a slippie that you are a real man traditionalist, then i think you are way off base.

Do you still ride a horse to work too??
Do you heat you house off a wood burning stove, and chop wood all fall??

. Don't try and make youself all high and mighty just because you carry a slippie. I carry a slippie a lot too, but i dont think it makes me a "real man", and not even close to a traditonalist.

I don't ride a horse to work, but I do ride an alligator around AT work, since I wrestle them for a living. LOL;)

Mods (Bastid, Blues), I apologize for starting a thread that turned out to be a bit more controversial then I had intended, and I might have made the situation worse by just sitting back and reading where it went without interjecting myself, but for all those who vehemently defend tacticals, good for you. It's good to see someone that passionate about what they carry. However, this is a very family-like forum, and yes, we are mostly guys, and good natured ribbing, sarcasm, and disaggrement is cool, but it's all in good fun. Guys bust each other's chops, but outright meanness is not cool. And for those who are taking it out on me personally, when did I say real men carry slippies? When did I say I was high and mighty because I carry a slippie? If you read the original post correctly, it was the CONSTRUCTION WORKER who said that. I was quoting him. I'm sure ya'll just misread it, no harm done, but please don't litter our forum with negativity, and for pete's sake, DON'T TEST OUR MODS!!!! LOL. They will win EVERY TIME!!!
They are all powerful.
They are omni-present.
They're EVERYWHERE. :D

Hopefully this thread won't need any more stinkin' badgers...

:eek::cool:

Badgers are pretty tough, but I think THIS guy could get rid of those little critters for ya Blues! LOL.

Maybe so, "El". Then again, there were some pretty dangerous critters I dealt with during my 17 years in South FL through the end of 2003. (And they shot back! (But hardly ever carried a slipjoint!) ;)

When you post with quotes like that, you are implying that you agree. You stirred the pot, and got someone banned, mods are on your side. Congratulations. You are creating sides where none need to be made, as myself and others have said.

Enjoy your forum, I'm taking this one off my sub. list. I enjoy discussing slipjoints, I don't care for this us v.s. them attitude, or the superiority complex that I'm getting from this.

PS - This is in response to post 115, I forgot to quote it.
