I want to carry it for:

1( I love knives
2( For cutting things (boxes, strings, anything on a day to day basis, etc.)
3( Just in case someone needs one. I have been asked a lot “do you have a knife”? I am always able to say yes.

What if I get one with a clip, but then remove it? Most knives have little screws you can unscrew to remove or change the clip to a different position, correct?

Removing the clip is a good idea.
And your reasons are legitimate. :)

Ok, thanks!

Then I will agree to their contract, but remove the clip when I get it. I will be a huge adjustment for me, as I have always clipped it to my pocket.

Still looking around, but narrowing it down to a select few. Really like the Spydercos’.

I do have a question on the Tenacious though... what is the difference between these two knives, besides the grip?

(
The Tenacious was one of the ones recommend to me, and I like the look of it. It seems nice. Is it a flipper? Or just a regular opener?)

Hey dude, slightly off-topic but hear me out here. Would you consider a fixed blade? The ESEE Izula is a great option for EDC and daily house chores. You can just toss it in your pocket and it’ll be there if you need it. Looking back, I would have loved to own one at the age of twelve lol.

The Tenacious is the larger version of the Efficient that I had posted earlier. It is a manual opening knife but if you look up "Spyderco flick" on youtube you will find that there are several very fast ways to open a spyderco knife.

The difference in the two you posted above is that the first one is their new "lightweight" version making use of FRN (a fancy kind of plastic) as the handle scale material compared to the second one which is the classic version of the Tenacious that has been sold for years at this point using black G-10 handle scales. The lightweight will be slightly lighter as the name suggests but at the end it is really saving you a mere .3 ounces.

The Tenacious is an awesome choice too. It all boils down to which texture of scales you prefer. The LW has a plasticky Hasbro action figure feel while the G10 feels like what I could best describe as “hard canvass” I guess. Personally, I prefer the G10 scales by a little bit, but go with what suits your tastes.

I have the Resilience and it’s a joy to use lmao.

I wouldn’t be able to clip it to my pocket, because I’m “showing off” and “letting everyone know I have a weapon”...They also claim the reason why knife manufacturers put the clip on the knife in the first place, is so people can show off.
This stressed me out just reading.

The other option is to buy a knife with a pocket clip, and tell your parents that they can remove the pocket clip until they feel like you are responsible enough to have the clip on.
This is a good idea. I can't think of any good clipped knives where the clip isn't removable.

One more question...why are you allowed a knife with a pocket clip now, and not on the new one?
I honestly don’t know man... my parents are weird sometimes.

My dad keeps telling me to put it in my pocket at church, because my shirt is tucked in and you can see the clip. When I’m out in public regularly, my shirt is tucked in - hiding the clip. That was my argument, but as usual, I lost it.

They made points like “well, what if your shirt rides ups, someone could see it, and then they could take it and use it against you”. I have been carrying knives with clips for over 5 years. I mean, come on...

IKR... I’m glad all you guys are on the same page with me, on that crazy thing they believe.

Thank you D DangerZone98 and C c7m2p3 . Right now, these are my choices:

The BackLash: https://www.bladehq.com/item--CIVIVI-Baklash-Flipper-Liner-Lock--103161
The Efficient: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Efficient-Liner-Lock-Knife--93629
And the Tenacious: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Tenacious-Folding-Knife-G--10961

As of right now, I’m leaning towards either of the Spyderco knives, and more specifically, the efficient - only because it is smaller. Thoughts on those three?

They would be even more like:

“Why do you need a fixed blade knife like that?”. Trust me, they will think it’s for my self defense pm even though I don’t even know how to use a knife for self defense...

Its also a lot more “menacing” if you pull it out in public to cut something. Thanks for the idea though. :)

Can’t go wrong with a Spyderco!

On second thought, looking at the reviews on BladeHQ, it seems like a bad “budget” knife.

Maybe I will get the Tenacious...

Does anyone have both of these? What are your thoughts?

What about the Spyderco Persistence?

I have one. Its a touch smaller than the Tenacious.

Keep in mind you'll need a small bit driver to remove a clip, usually a T6 torx. A little extra expense to consider if you guys don't already have one. But you can get a decent set at Lowes for less than ten bucks.

Will look into that, thanks. :)

I do have a small kit with a lot of different bits of different sizes/shapes.

He is right.

FYI, the Tenacious does take up a lot of pocket real estate.

personally, I don’t think that it would work well without it’s clip.

What about something like Spyderco’s UKPK?

The only hesitation in getting the Efficient, is the bad reviews on BladeHQ. Like this one:

“Have you ever wanted a Spyderco knife with none of the Spyderco flare? None of the attention to detail? Look no further than this one.

Everything screams budget on this knife, from the uneven blade sharpness, the uncentered blade while it's between the scales, the difficulty to open the blade, that half click before the blade completely deploys. Scales are okay. Lanyard hole works.

I love budget knives, but a budget knife dosen't mean bad knife. This knife might be a bad knife. For ~$50 I would consider other options.”

I mean, that was pretty harsh...

You just posted a review for a different knife. Please go back and read our comments again.

I have a Resilience, Tenacious, and Persistence. They are all high quality. I've had my Tenacious for about 5 years and it's still kicking, even after I dropped it and broke the tip, taken it apart multiple times, and used it for things I probably shouldn't have used it for. The Efficient is even smaller than the Persistence, and for that reason I don't own one. The Persistence is about the smallest I would go (about Para 3 sized).

Take reviews on websites with a grain of salt. I read one review about the Kershaw Bareknuckle where the guy complained about the strength of the detent and the uneven edge grind. Yes, the first runs of Bareknuckles were a bit heavy with the detent, but if you kept your fingers off the lockbar (which a lot of people seem unable to do) it works just fine. And edges can be fixed. Mine was terrible at the tip (Kershaw and ZT have had edge problems for a while, but seem to be getting better). And people complain about the littlest things. You buy a budget knife, you sometimes have to look past a few flaws, just the name of the game.

Chinese Spydercos aren't up to the standard of the other factories. But they are still very good knives that will serve someone for a long time.

As for your parents thinking someone having a knife with a clip showing means they are showing off, or that its a weapon, or that someone will take it from you and use it on you, that sounds like a lot of people in this day and age who are scared of everything. Just follow their rules since it is their house and do what you can to show them you are responsible. Don't flick your knives, don't play with your knives, use them as a tool and put them away safely. Take the clip off and drop it in your pocket. Once you are old enough and can get on your own then you can start doing things the way you like. That's just part of life unfortunetly.
