Reate productions on par with high-end mid-techs?

Many American companies aren't even held to this standard. Not fair to hold Reate to it. They are at least ground thinner than a Strider or Medford. Think ZT standard, it will cut but it is a brick compared to something properly slicey.
I didn't say anything about holding anyone to a standard nor was I complaining about Reate. I haven't kept up with what Reate produces, I've never held one, so I asked. For my own personal use I don't want a thick edge on my knives and I hate reprofiling so I just don't buy knives with that feature.

The new title is kind of amusing considering how many mid-tech are produced by Reate (depending on your definition of midtech at least) :D

And just to keep being a fly in the ointment...isn't current Reate pricing "on par" with high end mid-techs? What's the accomplishment here?

Don't get me wrong, I love the precision that is Reate knives. I own a District 9 (the original, which was sold under the District Nine Knives brand), a Horizon A, a Horizon B, a Hills, a modded prototype Horizon D CF, a Wave, a SteelSeries Mini Bodega, a SteelSeries Kwaiken, a Liong Mah Warrior 1, Liong Mah Remedy and a Liong Mah Lanny. There might be another one or two that I'm missing. Oh, I've got a Bharucha Prism on pre-order...

My point is, before I'm called a hater, that Reate has failed to make a knife for the masses. They continue to resist a "Reate Delica"...a knife that your brother-in-law and co-worker can carry. A knife that I WANT to carry. I've watched the K series come and go with lots of early purchase options, and I had to pass. They still don't make a knife that I want to make my EDC.

So, if your point is that Reate quality challenges that of upper mid-tech manufacturers, my response is "so what"? At an average price of $400 to $700 USD, they damn well better. They've absolutely dominated the world of 4" titanium frame-lock flippers...awesome...I'd like to see them apply their talents to knives that most of us can actually use.

That's all. Please continue your love-in.

Really, I was merely trying to highlight the consistently near perfect fit and finish leaving China today, a quality that seems to ellude many of the top American manufacturers.

Reate is probably a dated example as their popularity has caused their pricing to skyrocket, regardless, I still have a few Reates that cost me less than $100.

They know what sells, I won't ask them to fix what isn't broken. I have some $50 Kizer vg10/titanium knives for everyday carry, if I so choose.

I am happy to EDC a 4” titanium flipper!

Same here. I get that 3 -3.5 is a legal thing as well as a "big enough for every task" argument but I like large folders so I have no qualms using 3.75 - 4" blades.
Got the Zeta on me today. Carries small, big blade

I don't like any of their designs that I have seen, and they cost quite a bit.
Thus, I have not bought any.

So they aren't on a par with other high-end manufacturers when it comes to getting my money. :D

Haven't heard much in the way of complaints about quality from people who do buy them though.

Yeah, I’ve got one. It’s still over 3” and a little heavier than I’d like. I wish they’d done some weight reduction inside. I’m still waiting for a <3”, <3oz Reate. My Lanny actually feels a little smaller than the Wave.

You mean like skeletonized liners?

LOL. So you claim own 11 Reate made knives, but you don't WANT to carry any of them? Not calling you a hater, but Reate is not a "knife for the masses", nor do they need to be. Frame lock titanium flipper for the masses - Kizer.

For comparison purposes, here's a WAVE with the new ZT 0609. Many buyers of the 0609 have complained that it's too small. For me it's perfect...plenty of blade that carries small.

On my scale, the WAVE weights 3.76 ounces and the 0609 weights 3.62 ounces.

Since I did mention Kizer...here's the T1 included for a very similar size comparison. The T1 is 4.38 ounces.

I have about 500 folders and a carry rotation of 64 different knives. Some Reates are in the carry rotation but they only get grabbed on the weekend. I have a strict workplace policy of 3” blade max, so none of the Reates are in my EDC.

Until they offer a sub-3”, sub-3oz Knife, they’re not an EDC option for the masses that are composed of me, myself and I:p.
