Reate's 2015 Horizon Series New Item Horizon-C

I was pretty skeptical when all the Reate threads popped up. But all I've heard about reate is good things, and it seems like you guys really take care of your customers. I guess I shouldn't be so quick to judge...

To include extra hardware is pretty sweet. I think making tweaks to the design of the original horizon is a great idea. It's nice to see a knife company listening to their customers.

I put in an order for one! That knife looks absolutely amazing, I just had to have one. Flat grind, blackwash, MRBS...that's a winner. Everyone has said such good things about them, so I hope this thing is as awesome as it looks.

Ps.. How the heck do you pronounce reate? Like ree-eight, ree-ahh-tahh?

Man you guys make some nice looking knives. I also was extremely skeptical when I heard about this new company Reate making premium knives out of china. However, everything I've heard so far has been positive. I have not bought one myself but my turn is coming up soon in a passaround for a District 9 which is my favorite of your designs(although this new design is my second favorite, or maybe even tied).

Since you seem to listen to customers suggestions so well, I do have one for you. Please start making more 3" folders. A ton of people really love your designs, yet the blades a just a little bit too long. If all your designs were 3", or offered as your regular models plus a "mini" 3 inch model, similar to what Benchmade does a lot of times, I would probably own 2 of your knives already.

Keep up the good work!

That is a sweet looking knife! With no left/right clip option it's a no-go for me -- after handling the Horizon-A and anodizing it during the passaround, the clip definitely needs to be reversible.

Very nice. However there is no chance I'm buying anthing from Reate until they MAKE A FREAKIN' LEFTY!!!
Sorry, rant mode off now. Just getting really frustrating not being able to get one.

I'm really impressed by the multi-row captive bearings and washers in the bearing races. That's a very nice touch.

I wish this option was available when I picked up the Hills. This is definitely my favorite design yall have put out.

The original Horizon A and B didn't really speak to me. Wasn't a fan of the textured titanium. This model however looks fantastic. Flat grind and good job getting rid of the recurve. I just put a preorder in
at Knifecenter. Can't wait to see if the hype lives up.

I'm definitely buying this.. It will be my first knife from these guys but I would buy this regardless of where it was made. Always liked the handle but didn't love the blade on the other horizons and the d9 is too bulky for me, but this is perfect.

I would like to see a model with a carbon fiber or g10 scale with titanium liner on the non locking side.

I think its Ree ahh Tee. Good on you man. I understand your hesitation but these guys are making phenominal stuff. My horizon B easitly competes with any production knife I have purchased funtionally. And from a finishing standpoint I cant find any flaws and that is from a perfectionist. I think you will be pleased.

Really great reasonably priced knives. I've owned all of them and can't wait for the "C". Nice work Dave.

I so want one!!
My only personal suggestion would be to close up the back like the Horizon A. Even if its G10 I like it closed vs open.

I would love to see a thumb stud opening version of this as well. I have been over flipper for the most part for a year or so. They are great, but I just love simple thumb stud operation and PB washers. Maybe?

Great update on the Horizon with this Horizon-C. All the nice touches of the Hills are in there with the addition of the new bearings. Will you be making a M390 & backspacer version to join my Horizon-A?

David, I have the Horizon A and love it. Right now I'm also loving the District 9B pass around. I've followed your IG WIP on the Horizon C and know that it's a must have for me. It's a great looking knife. Perhaps in the future you'll consider left handed versions, as well as smaller models. Finally, as others have said, we would appreciate availability of whatever you come out with, an upgraded steel like M390 as an option. Until then, best wishes and congratulations on your well-deserved, continuing success.

I doubt it. At least not anytime super soon. They said in another thread that they will continue to be focusing on flippers for the time being.

David,

As many have mentioned here and in the thread "Reate Knives-Users' opinion and collections" a new narrow-width flipper with a just under 3 inches (76mm) blade with a flat grind, MRBS ceramic bearings and full titanium frame lock would be great for your next one.

Note: There seems to be a discrepancy in the way you measure blade length as opposed the common norm here by the American Knife and Tool Institute which is "knife blade length, the measurement shall be the straight line extending from the tip of the blade to the forward-most aspect of the hilt or handle".

The reason I say that is because you have the Hills listed at 3.5 inches whereas it's actually 3.625 inches.
