Received today: ZT 0566

Little off topic, by why do most people de assist these?

They're referring to removing the little steel bar which acts as the assisted opening mechanism. Some people prefer their knives without the spring assisted opening and Kershaw/ZT's Speedsafe is, in this case, fairly easy to remove and presents a functioning knife (sometimes, there is not other way for the blade to stay open, so Speedsafe is required)

It's just so smooth, it really deserves to be felt. And for me, it seems to "connect" me to the knife more. I also feel it improves the quality of the knife, but again, that's just me.
It really is an excellent knife, one way or another.

Well, after seeing the 560 I wanted a smaller one ever since, so after 2 yrs of waiting, its finally in my hands, thanks KAI.

Feels really solid, detent is really nice, F&F is great, had to put it on the UF stones on the sharp maker and its hair poppin now. G10 is almost identical to the PM2 which is perfect. I prefer the steel over the ti on this knife. KAI, I hope you guys have done your capacity planning cause this knife is worthy of needing a back-up, and everyone will have at least 2 of these.

For me and what I use a knife for, the 566 is pure EDC perfection, I am done buying knives now, unless its another 566. ;)

PC87, so the sharpmaker lined up pretty well with the pre existing bevel? I'm hoping to use mine to maintain my edge.

Yea, it seem to be perfect at the 40 deg. setting on the SM. I plan on using it to keep it maintained as well. We shouldn't have to re-profile anytime soon as the 566 has a really high bevel like all my PM2's.

I cut some PB paper prior to putting it on the UF's and it was real toothy, after about 25 passes on both sides with the SM it went through it quietly and much more smooth. It's has sharp as I need it to be at this point. I'm interested to see how long it will retain its sharpness.

I agree. I LOVE my 566. I ended up selling my 560BW because I just can't carry it after carrying the 566. It's that good and mine is SOOO smooth without the speedsafe. I do have a 770 on the way so as soon as that arrives I'll be switching like I normally do but ZT really killed it with this knife.

Yea, I bought a 560 last yr thinking I could pull off EDC'ing it, I was wrong and got rid of it. I was thinking about the 770 also, but after receiving the 566, I think I will go ahead and put my redundancy plan in place and get another 566 when someone has them in stock again.

So far without cutting anything in my daily duties, the materials and F&F of this knife really lives up to what my expectations were of the knife when we were all discussing it last yr, and KAI gave us some insight of what it was going to be. Way to go KAI on this one!

Whomever reads this from KAI, please thank the Ladies n Gentlemen on the factory floor who produced these knives and let them know they did one heck of a fine job.

In some locations, assisted open knifes are more problematic to carry (legally ok, but still problematic in the eyes of the local constabulary = not worth the hassle). There is also a matter of preference. I generally don't like my knives to open for me. Just my own thing.

You guys are all making me so jealous having yours already. My 566 is on its way and it can't get here soon enough. I think I check tracking twice a day.

coli, you're going to love it! I feel I'm in with PC87, as I'm done buying knives, well, for now. My newly refurbished BM 710 had knocked my other ZTs and Spydie Southard from rotation, but this 0566 is going to see some serious pocket time.

My arrived today and as others have said , its "KILLER"
I,ll have to try it without the torsion bar.
This one to me is much better than the 0770.

Do it! Though I will say not everyone has the same experience. Could depend on the detent .

I am patiently waiting for my pre-order of the 0566! I will de-assist it when it shows up, because I prefer it for easier closing, especially one-handed.

I pulled it and I have to flick my wrist to much for it to work good , so I put it back.
If I have to move my wrist that much , I,d rather have the spring.
Maybe they will make a limited run with the ball bearings system and titanium.
I plan on buying a couple more ..........I still have preorders out there .......LOL
Mine has a good detent ..........too good , IMHO

Looking forward to a titanium version myself, this knife is killer but too heavy for it's size and width.

I find that using the flipper de assisted certainly isn't like pushing a button. I'm still learning it's "language" and get it to flip pretty much most of the time. And the thumb studs work 100%, so I figure I've got it covered.

The only flipper I own that'll flip like pushing a button is my Spydie Southard, that thing just fires.

I agree on the Southard ......... I dont even have to move my wrist at all.
I may take the bar out again and give it another go .......(more time)
Mine seems to hurt my finger a bit upon opening , just a little stiff.

as does my Kershaw RAM

I de-assisted mine tonight, but rather than just remove the torsion bar I took it all the way apart and cleaned the washers and re-lubricated with Nano-Oil and it flips like a dream now. I like it much better this way.
