Received today: ZT 0566

Can't you get teflon washers from a hardware store for much cheaper?

I would be very interested if someone can source some the exact right size. Just this minute received a brand new legit XM-18 and there is very little/no different in the "action" once the Teflon washers are installed in the 566. As an aside I called ZT to see if parts could sell me any and they said no way. The pivot on the 566 is also some sort of plastic would very much like to install a metal one as per the 560/ 561

Indian: Remove 4 screws (3 handle one pivot). Remove torsion bar and discard (kidding keep it in the box). Remove all sticky goo (factory grease?). Install Nano Oil. If you can, order the Teflon washers for an XM-18 from Monkey Edge. They are not a DIRECT replacement as the center hole is larger but that doesn't seem to matter. Reassemble knife. With the nano and the Teflon washers you SHOULD be able to adjust for zero blade play and lightning, no wrist flick deployment...... :-). Blazing fast.
Thanks Matt. I dont know about the teflon washers but I will deassist and see.

W-T-H are you on about?!!! Mine certainly isn't plastic, and I've never heard of such a thing on even the cheapest of knives. Neither are the washers plastic, so I can't figure out what you are referring to.

Vasu - see MonkeyEdge.com for Hinderer washer kit $12. Makes a HUGE difference...
I was thinking shipping $12 washers to the UAE would be unviable. But the damn website has so much more I want that it might just become viable. Out comes my credit card.

Damn you knife people....................

Generally, I think speed when unassisted is a matter of your technique. The bronze washers it comes with ought to be enough. But, tell us how it goes.

I think you will find if you take apart the knife that the black, hexagonal headed female side of the 0566 pivot isn't metal. Not sure on the material bit it seems some very hard non metal cast material. Also the Teflon washers I'm referring to are standard on the XM-18 and greatly speed up the knifes deployment.

Metal on mine. A D2 blade will barely scratch it at all. And what little it does, it's bright and shiny underneath. Cast metal? Maybe. Some kind of alloy. But whatever it is, it is a lot harder than any composite, and a lot harder than aluminum, magnesium, cast iron... all of which I can scratch or gouge with a D2 blade.

Right on. Thats good news!

I have had mine for nearly a week now. It is in one word, Amazing. I may have a new number one knife with my para2 coveting that title for nearly 2 years. My only disappointment is that it is a bit heavy when you consider the overall size. I took it apart for cleaning and noticed that the non locking scale is solid metal and has no milling. I was a bit surprised; after I have the knife for a while I may drill some holes to lighten the weight.

Other than that the only other issue is that the opening was a bit gritty and tight at first. After cleaning it, lubing it and opening it a 100 or so times it is good to go.
I suggest everyone that is on the fence about the 0566 should pull the trigger; it is worth it.

It is a very good knife and worth the money. I have also skeltonized the scale a bit to help lower the weight a bit. Best of luck with yours.

Just got mine, love the ergos it fits my hand perfect! As other have said its perfect EDC size. Its very sharp and has a better grind than my 0560. However the 0566 was little stiff out of the box, the AO works ok but lacks the "oomph!" of my 0350.
But i was planning on removing the 0566s AO spring anyway. I just disassembled it, cleaned it and lubed the pivot. After reassembly it was still a little tight but i adjusted the pivot screw and now it flips just fine.
If you are going to leave the AO functioning remember to leave a little grease in the channel for the spring as without it it can make a rattling noise when you move/shake the knife.
There are a series of VERY fine scratches on the blade near the ZT logo flat area and to an even lesser degree on the opposite side where the model number is marked. By very fine i mean you have to eyeball it close and tilt it just right to even see them. I've seen worse on other makers knives.
To me this is the ZT design i was always waiting for, i will never sell this knife however my 0350 and 0560 may be getting traded off in the future. Definitely keeping my 0200 as well though. I'm guessing/hoping a black wash version will be coming out soon as well! Overall an excellent design!

Nice job, is the difference in weight noticeable? I may give this a try with mine.

Only ! 5/8" has been removed from this thin piece of stainless. In my mind its lighter but my hand does not notice much of a difference. Need to get it weighed.

I can't figure what is so bad about assisested open knifes. I kinda think they are fun.

For one thing, they happen to be illegal in North Carolina.
You can be arrested for carrying any assisted-opening knife.
A switch blade will get you jail time.
An out-the -front type knife will get you prison time for carrying a weapon of mass destruction.
But, any "typical pocket knife", whatever the Hell that is, can be confiscated using "officer's discretion", without being arrested.
That last one means that if the officer takes a liking to your custom built, perfectly legal pocket knife, he may take it home with him and dare you to say a single word about it.
Been there, had that done to me.
You may also be confiscated "at the officer's discretion", jailed with no charges for 72 hours, released and then immediately picked right back up for another 72 hours, and on and on.
Get the picture? North Carolina is now a de facto police state where all judges automatically take the side of the police. Unless you happen to be a rich Republican, of course.
A "wink, wink, nudge, nudge, pass the campaign contribution" will make you pure as the driven snow. If you're the same color as the driven snow, that is.
Otherwise, that's bribery and you just became an example.
I used to love my home state. Now, I don't feel safe going to the grocery store while carrying any kind of protection at all.
No doubt this post will disappear ASAP. Those who do get to read it, remember it. And learn your own state's knife laws and how they may be interpreted.

I'm interested in this too - I think just a bit of removal might really change the feel (even if the weight difference isn't major).

The nice thing about Living in North Carolina is its not hard to get a Concealed carry permit to feel safe. Grocery shopping I would prefer this over a AO knife any day. :D

Well, always late to the party, but just got mine yesterday. I love it! Perfect size and sharp as hell! Must have been a good grind day when mine was being done.
Anyway, I was flipping away, and then I read this from page 8:

I saw a 1127 or 1227 ser. on youtube, I think it was a russian vid if I remember correctly.

That's my serial # (1227)! WTF? For just a second, I thought that maybe mine was some sort of russian copy or something. Stupid I know, but after a check of all my paperwork, the box, and the YouTube vid, all good. Vid is not my ser. Whew!

I will enjoy this EDC for a long time, and I can't wait to get other scales for this one. Anyone else looking or found a scale provider? Has ZT offered this kind of stuff in the past?
Thanks all!

Cuscadi scales makes scales for pretty much every knife out there. They make wonderful scales and their prices are reasonable considering the materials and labor.
I've a set of Golden Amboyna scales for my BM585, they are awesome and the pair was just a bit north of $80 shipped.
