Received today: ZT 0566

That said, if anyone has any advice for disengaging the lock I'd love to hear that. I haven't found a way comfortably hold the knife and disengage the lock without fighting my other fingers. In fact, its far easier for me to close the knife with my left hand.

it takes some practice. I end up kinda palming it deep, only holding the knife with my pinky and ring finger, and leaving my middle and index fingers pretty much open. It keeps enough pressure off the lock bar, for me. I'll try to take a quick video and post.

I don't know how to embed, but here is a link.

Your title of the video says ZY instead of ZT. But good example.

Yeah your knife has way better action than mine, both opening and closing. I'll keep practicing and breaking it in.

Yeah, I need to fix that. But I can't figure out how until I get to a real computer, instead of a smart phone. I caught it after I published it.

I, very carefully, applied back pressure to the frame lock bar while I had it completely disassembled. Just enough to reduce the tension and it is now easier to disengage.
I'm a lefty and use the knife as a lefty with no problems though it takes some time to get used to where you place your fingers on the frame lock side.

It took me a bit of practice, break in, and carriage/usage to get it there. I think the most important thing is patience.

Bit of a problem...Being a lefty I prefer to carry in my left pocket...today I tried to move the clip to the opposite side and find the screws are too short to attach the clip to the G10 side...no bite at all.
Will contact ZT/Kai and see what occurs.
Updates to follow.

WOW...just got off the phone with ZT customer service/warranty...young lady I spoke to was great...set of screws on the way...they seemed to be aware of this minor problem based on how quickly she knew exactly what I was describing...

Well done ZT...

I did this last night as well as tried recleaning, lubing, and centering the blade. It didn't make a difference in the opening of the knife but made disengaging the lock 100x easier. The problem is my lockup is probably now around 30% where it was 50% I don't know if this is an issue and honestly kind of regret messing with it. It still feels like it locks up really solid but i kind of wish I would have given it more break in time before trying that.

Edit: here is a picture of my new lockup. As I said, love the action now but not if it comes at the cost of decreased lock integrity. Does this look acceptable?

I have CRK knives with lockup like that and they are secure.

You could always, with your fingers out of the way, gently tap the back of the blade on top of a counter top or table with cloth on the counter/table to protect both it and the knife blade from marring, and see if it disengages.

Key word here is GENTLY. Tap it a couple of times.

That lockup looks about like mine. Haven't had a problem so far.

Sooooo i'm wondering is the 0566 going to be available in black wash (bw)?
I'm waiting for dealers up here to restock the 0566 and i'm thinking why not wait a little longer if there will be a black wash version. Also i'm looking at my 560 and thinking i'd prefer the bw version, lol.

Yeah I'll probably pick up some variations on this blade if they make any. I've cut back to maybe one or two knife purchases a year and now that I have my 566 I don't see that changing. This folder is probably my favorite as a main EDC blade.

Looks just fine.

I would also like a black wash version. If it doesnt get announced at Shot Show, I am just going to order the current color/finish. It is hard to wait after hearing all the positive comments about the 0566.

Is the lockside stonewashed? Some of the pics look different than others.
Probably about to order one

I may have spoken a little too soon about mine. After flipping my 0566 for about a week now, the opening and closing of mine has become much, much smoother. It seems about 10 times easier to open now. Like others have described, I can get a good clean opening with no wrist action if I get a good push with my index finger. This is true even if the knife is held vertically. I put the assisted opening spring back in, and it actually become tolerable. Where as before it would have given my finger a blister with too many openings, I was able to play with it while watching TV with no problems. For me, I still think the knife is better as a manual flipper as it just requires too much pressure to open while assisted compared to any other knife opening I've tried.

Also, I found out that it wasn't the threads that were stripped in the knife. Another screw seemed to have stripped so I knew something was up. Turns out that when I take off the G10 scale, the screws will tighten into the threads just fine. It seems the screws are just barely long enough to get past the G10 and start tightening into the frame. The screws seem to be exactly the same length, so the holes in the G10 must be recessed slightly unevenly. I need to call ZT and maybe get some slightly longer frame screws.

I was actually set on selling this but now I'm reconsidering. I don't have any other heavy, hard use folders so it does fill a void in my collection. And while I'm not in love with the opening action, it doesn't seem to be any slower than any other knife with a thumb stud or hole opening. As I said before though, the ergonomics of this thing is just heavenly. Feels great in hand, it's literally perfect for my hands. It looks like I may just keep it, and start my search for a slightly smaller and lighter EDC blade to carry when the ZT is too much. And thus, my knife collection will just continue to grow...

Finally decided to order one with some lovely Christmas money. I've had it for about a week now and to be honest, I'm unimpressed. I absolutely hated having the assist in, it was giving me a blister while repeatedly opening it. So I took out the torsion bar, and while it's better, it's still no where as smooth as the Ripple flipper I own, and that knife isn't a third of the price. Also, while removing The G10 scale, one screw fell out and I found out the hole was stripped.
However, in hand the knife feels absolutely awesome. That's the only thing preventing me from selling it. I'm hoping the flipper action smooths out but for right now, I believe the knife is overpriced. Just my 2 cents, and obviously most people love it so YMMV!
