It looks like I could assemble a whole dagger for maybe another $200 bucks, which is more than I'd like to spend. From what I read, after WWII factories in Germany continued to make these daggers to sell to GIs. The scabbard, pommels, cross guards, etc were made from leftover WW2 stock, the only thing "new" on them were the blades. So if I bought one of these 1950's repros and dropped an original blade in it, it'd basically be all original. But old German repros are expensive too.

You can get a newer Spanish made repro for $20, but I don't know if the parts would be compatible with a real blade. I doubt they're made to exacting proportions.

Just won a statue to hold my Keris! It cost more than the Keris itself but I think it's going to look pretty cool.

cool, i've seen keris holders like that and ones that are wall mounted. it makes the spirit in your keris happy to have a nice home like that

I'm all for keeping the spirit in the keri very happy.

And I think it's gonna look wicked cool too. Way cool.

Not sure how happy it'll make the keris, as my keris is from a Muslim area and this holder is from a Hindu area. But I do know it'll look cool.

I'm pretty sure this keris doesn't like me anyway. I slept with it under my pillow since supposedly the keris will "communicate" with you in your dreams. I only remember having one dream that night, but the only thing I remember from the dream was that the monster baby from Eraserhead was in it. Now Eraserhead is a great movie, but I think monster baby dreams would definitely count as a negative omen.

Ack! Well maybe it will change it's mind about you when it sees how nice a new home you bought it? Gotta hope so, cause you are right, I would definitely think monster baby dreams are a bad omen. Going to make a nice display together to. Awesome!

Who knows, maybe it's just a David Lynch fan. Just in case it isn't, I picked up another Keris for really cheap, like $50 after shipping. It's missing its ganja (guard), ring, and hilt. The ganja can't easily be replaced but I can get a new hilt and ring off eBay. Or, if my current keris doesn't stop being a jerk, I may just take the hilt and ring from that one. The dagger in the pics is supposedly from Chad, but it looks like junk.

Very cool holder blue! Maybe you need to sleep with both of them. A little three way bonding eh? Its almost a full moon. Does that matter?

Kinky! Actually, if you own multiple kerises they may not get along with each other, in which case you need to buy a special "neutral" keris to defuse the situation. These things are more work than owning a pet!

Dagger don't look like junk to me! Damascus, wait Bookie stomped me on that term, hmmm pattern welded.

Ain't quite as pretty as the one he made and sent me but it definitely don't look like junk to me unless your one of them that wears your pants around your knees and junk mean good.

I don't think that blade at the bottom is pattern welded. It looks like mono steel from me, it's probably just random scrap metal.

...edit:
Kinky! Actually, if you own multiple Wives they may not get along with each other, in which case you need to buy a special "neutral" wife to defuse the situation. These things are more work than owning a pet!

...OK now i get it. :D

So these came in the mail today. Not knives, but impact weapons. I decided I needed to get some less-lethal options, and broaden my range of experience.

The first is a Dan Bong, sometimes called a rope stick. It's a simple weapon, and this one wasn't too expensive because it's made of propylene which I'm told is nearly unbreakable. Bought it from Laci Szabo, and was impressed that he returned my call personally instead of having someone else do it, and he shipped it fast. It's a lot heavier than it looks, but that's a good thing for an impact weapon.

Next up is a Stinger. It's a James Keating design, and I hear that they are very effective at working over pressure points and focusing the force of a punch onto a small area. It's really light, and fits into any pocket without issue. I'm thinking about putting it on my keychain, but I'm not sure yet.

Take a guess what that is on my computer screen.

They're cheap. Less than $10 each, and they're supposed to be quite effective as a discreet self-defense tool. I read a story about a little lady that broke a few bones in an attacker's hand with a light blow. Apparently he was crying profusely when the police took him in. I take the story with a grain of salt because if memory serves it was a site that sells them, but I have verified their claim that a modified version is used for physical therapy, and I can tell you from experience that physical therapy tools hurt.

both are illegal offensive weapons over here in the UK. you might scare the sheeple. or offend someone of an alternate minority race, religion or sexual preference.

Kron, Curious whether something I read is fact or fiction. It seems to wild to be real... BUT, we all know that just doesn't prove it isn't. Perhaps you can help me figure out if it was a crock?

I just read an article about folks in the UK being told by the police website that anything other than a rape alarm for self defense is illegal.
The website goes on to point out that any product a British citizen purchases, other than a rape alarm, “must not be a product which is made to cause a person injury. Possession of such a product in public (and in private in specific circumstances) is against the law.”

It offers some suggestions. A British citizen may use a squirt bottle filled with a safe but brightly colored dye that may help police find and apprehend a criminal after the attack has been successfully completed. But, says the website, a citizen “should be aware that even a seemingly safe product … would become an offensive weapon [if] it would be used in a way that is intended to cause injury.”

So basically they are saying. "Lay back and think of England while the rapist finishes. Then get up and walk to the Police station and report him. Is the only acceptable choice." Heck there is even something about some actress almost being arrested for chasing a group of thugs off from her home with a kitchen knife?

Just really confused if the UK has really sunk that far into the abyss since I was last there.

anything carried 'for defence' is by definition an 'offensive weapon'. there are strict limits on items that are exempt from laws restricting carriage in public. you may carry an 'offensive weapon to and from a martial arts or re-enactment activity as long as you are a member of a recognised group and go directly from/to the insured event with no stops along the way. not even for gasoline or to use the toilet. they must be kept in the trunk (boot) of your car while in transit you may freely carry a bladed item as long as the blade is not fixed, or if a folder, has no locking mechanism, as long as it has an edge less than 3 in. you may carry a fixed blade or folder over three inches with or without a lock if you are required to use it in performance of your job. again in the boot (trunk) to/from work without any stops in between. a stick, club, hammer, tire iron, or other tool instantly becomes an illegal offensive weapon if you carry it for defence. you are permitted to defend yourself if attacked first using anything to hand, ie. walking stick, tire iron you are using to change a tire, etc. they would likely frown on a cane that had been marketed as or modified to a defence cane.it's all fuzzy and up to the discretion of the arresting officer who is likely to err on the side of caution and arrest you to let the court sort it out, with you losing days at work and the cost of a defence lawyer. you are a bit better off in your own home where you can defend yourself ith a legal weapon if attacked by a burglar. if he is however retreating you can be arrested for assault.

there was a noted case where a farmer had been burglarised and tormented by local teen aged youths with baseball bats a number of times, had property destroyed animals injured and himself assaulted. he even removed his stairs and used a ladder to go up to his bedroom that he could pull up after him. one night two of the teens broke into his house, bringing a ladder and baseball bats and were climbing up to beat him. he had a legal shotgun (farmers can usually get a shotgun license) and shot at them, wounding one and killing the other. he was arrested and given a long sentence. the wounded one said they were leaving after he fired the first shot that wounded him, so the second shot was thus offensive and illegal, thus he had murdered the other one. this was under a socialist 'labour party' government (uk verion of the dems) who didn't like their poor welfare recipients being bumped off just for assaulting and possibly killing someone better off than they were.

when the conservatives (uk equivalent of the republicans) got back into power, they passed laws allowing you to more properly defend yourself in your own home & that farmer was pardoned and let loose. after the new laws another man was attacked by a burglar in his own kitchen, he picked up a steak knife from the dish drainer at the sink & stabbed the burglar in the leg. the home owner was arrested, but let off when the prosecutors decided he was justified. still had to spend a few days in jail.

of course the majority of cops do not carry weapons. some are allowed to carry tasers or pepper spray. armed officers are available to respond to armed felon reported events. like the old deaf & blind 80+ man who was tasered after repeated unheeded commands for him to put the sword down' (he was carrying a white cane, and facing away from the police.), they actually shot and killed a mentally challenged low IQ young man who confused by the orders to 'put the gun down'. he was carrying a replacement table leg in a plastic bag he'd just bought at a diy store for his mother's table. in both cases a scared sheeple busybody had phoned in a report of a man walking and brandishing a weapon. (the cane was obviously a samurai sword, the table leg a shotgun.

they just supplied 20,000 wearable video camera/recorders for the london police force to help prove their sometime illogical testimony in cases such as i mentioned. the old saw about 'who watches the watchers?'.

oh, forgot to mention the guy wounded by the farmer had the hutzpah to sue the farmer for his grievous and disabling wounds that he hasd been getting disability payments and welfare from his caring socialist govt. he hobbled into court the first day on his crutches in obvious pain and suffering. luckily the next day he was a bit late for court and was videoed by a reporter running across the street to the court. it made the 9pm news and the case was thrown out the next day. one hopes (as i do not recall) that his disability and welfare money was stopped.
