Anybody heard anything from Bluelander lately.
Hasn't made a post since before Christmas. Hoping he's ok and just busy.
Please check in and give us a welfare check.

Hope his basement wall didnt collapse on him from all that steel hanging there? Somebody better go check on him!

Color me deeply concerned now. Not like him to be awol this long without checking in.

I received a new one from Taiwan today - it is a modern folding interpretation of a traditional Shih Lin Dao ( 士林刀 ). The knifemaker ( KVL Knives ) has named this one " 進化版士林刀 " which roughly means evolved version of the Shih Lin Dao. Historically speaking, the handle was shaped like an Chinese eggplant and the blade was fashioned to mimic the form of bamboo leaves.

Details:
  • Blade Steel: VG-10 Damascus
  • Asymmetric Flat Grind
  • Semi-swedge on top to tip
  • Frame Material: Titanium

(Comparison to Purna Baby Foxy Folly)

Apparently, the asymmetric grind on the blade is symbolic of Taiwan's geologic cross-section WEST EAST. The left/port side of the blade is ground to reflect the geology of Taiwan WEST of the Chung-Yang San Range ( 中央山脈 ) while the right/starboard side of the blade is ground to represent Taiwan EAST of the range.

Chainwhip that is a very nice folder man! Love frame locks. Almost afraid to look up the price on that one;)

I got all of these from a private party. Stated he'd had them all around ten years, purchased all direct from HI. Not sure what the VFF by Bura is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:D

Top to bottom:
29" Bura Tarwar w/UB.
16" Bura VFF not sure what. Maybe a VUK? No UB.
12" Beautiful CAK w/UB. Auntie believes an early Murali.
8" Skinner w/Antler grips, no markings. Auntie recalls but, not the particulars.

VUK?

VUK(?) Markings

Tarwar Markings

That Bura Tarwar is really singing to me - very nice blades.

Thanks for the comeback CW! I was sweating it for awhile. The package was misdirected in Florida and wandered around for two weeks before arriving due to a comedy of errors by the USPS. Apparently it was meant to be.

Glad it made it (albeit circuitously) - I'm curious to see what other 411 we can get on some of them.

Myself as well. Just hoping this is the correct venue. Perhaps a pundit like Karda sees the posting and chimes in as well. There are others perhaps as knowledgeable but, it seems at least to me, he relishes sharing his expertise more than most. He's OK by me.

Great score BB! I saw a Bura up on the auction block just like that Tarwar. Sure was tempting. Glad they made it home.

Scored me a lil sumpin too. Lachhu Kerambit with Nepali antler.
