just acquired a new bendy knife, the vendor, a friend had bought it in poor condition, grip and scabbard worm eaten and not salvageable. he had a hunk of stag crown antler for which he made a bolster, drilled it out for the tang and epoxied it in place. he offered it to me, including the promise to make a scabbard. he finished it today. scabbard is heavy cowhide, rough side out, covering a wood core from a tourist khukri his son had discarded that happened to fit. he left the original sarki's leather on it. the cover is leather laced, and has rings to attach my baldric. too heavy for belt carry. he's also going to put a scary edge on it. might get it tomorrow.

oops, forgot: the blade was 20in. from tip to the end of the tang before the new grip was put on, the blade according to the vendor (who is also a bladesmith) says it's 'some sort of a wootz laminate'.

Hmm, that rust has the look of a hint stubbornness, not freshness. I hope I am wrong and you will find it sitting politely on the surface. But if not then converting it to black rust and leaving it, would be best option in that worst case scenario. Sure looks like you are right about the origin of the pointy bits, but the shape of the point is pretty unique. Not really the shape of a typical sabre. I can't wait to hear what you can glean from it once you have it in hand. Perhaps the engraving will lead you to its origins quite easily. But might be a fun research project finding it's story.

The fact at it's so orange and angry looking is what leads me to hope it's recent rust. Older rust tends to look blackish. The seller says the writing reads "NOABN". There's writing on both sides of the blade, and it at least looks like it says the same thing on both sides.

Thats a beautiful Hanshee Kronck. Looks like one of those IMA/AC blades. Dont see the Hanshee or siru-like ones anymore tho. Lucky dog you:thumbup:

that was my first impression, i gather this one is bigger than the run-of-the-mill AC. he said the original grip was a two hander hanshee type grip. he missed the PO courier pickup tonite, but it will leave his PO tomorrow am so i'll have it sat. he managed to put an edge on it that scares HIM. no belt loop on this, he decided it's just too heavy for a belt & needs a baldric. he tried it with a bit of 3/8"-ish small stuff as a baldric to test the suspension.

it's here! fits my hand perfectly, the crown antler is curved and twisted just right, almost like it was molded to fit me. :) heavy beastie, 740 gm. (26.38 oz.), 19" (48.26cm.) point to crown, 14.5 in. (36.83cm.) point to bolster. 3/8 in. (9.52mm.) spine at bolster. sharp too. blade has a pronounced fuller from about halfway up the blade to the spine, looks like it's an ang kola :) i think i will hug it and squeeze it and call it 'godzilla'.

Wow, awesome! My dentist used a similar device on me this morning, or at least it feels like he did. I'll ask him next time if he's Slovenian.

Such a unique face. I have to say, it speaks sweet nothings in my ear just from the design and shapes. The handle doesn't do anything for me, but the head is so intriguing. Is it forged or cast? So many fun things to look at I don't know what part I like the most...

forged. looks like he used a rotary tool of some sort to make the scalloping on the spike & head face. the wood haft could do with a set of languettes, but i'm not fussed that much. i will likely not be using it to parry any broadswords. targets will probably be fairly soft, with a crispy shell underneath. like heads.

the vendor also had a pair of fokos, one with a brass head, one with what looked a bit like steel but did not have that in the description & could actually have been an acrylic casting with steel powder, artists make statues of acrylic & bronze powder, cold casting it's called. anyhow, those had graphite carbon fibre hafts. this would have been cool with a carbon fibre haft. not sure if it would take the shock tho.

nice, ballistol. love the mask. khukuri on the right reminds me of godzilla (above).

it's fuller looks like the one on my godzilla. maybe godzilla's a duichirra rather than a angkhola.

speaking of godzilla, the friend i bought her from heard of my birthday & sent me a gift. the matching tinder pouch with flints/puff mushy tinder & some wood splints and a combo karda/striker(chakmak) as a necker on a thong. cool thing. arrived this morning. he made the knife & pouch.
cuddling with godzilla

I need to work on a group picture. For someone who said he'd never get into swords, I told a giant fib to myself. I've already acquired two Tarwars, two short Wajaskis, two long Wajaskis, two Everest Katanas, a Rajkumar Fighting Sword, a long and short Tibetan Sword, a Butterfly Sword, a Falkata and a Janawar Katana. These aren't counting some long Kobras, Gelbus and others that are in a gray area. Don't even ask about Bowies, another thing I thought I'd never get into. My original colection, after months of thought was going to consist of my M43 and my CAK. Yes HIKV is a real thing and alive and well in NE Illinois.

Awesome set Kronck! The fire pouch looks great with it. The lil striker/Karda is khul too:thumbup: That Slovanian thang is bad to the bone as well. I like the way they hafted it. Looks like they melted brass and poured it into the eye. Very nice!

Love that Bhairav mask Ballistol! That carved metal looks awesome on the black! Best one Ive seen yet.

Still an HI freak and loyal customer. Might change in the future but no time soon.

Hehe, start at the top and there isn't a reason to go anywhere else :D

Still there are a lot of other types of things out there. It sure is fun to see some of them that others have added to their collections.

Kron, that "lil" striker is a pretty example of a blacksmith's knife.

Not a brand new addition but its like new since I just got it back from the restorer.

I selected colors and motifs to suit a Sino-esque taste. I haven't done iaido, let alone tameshigiri, in years but since its the only sword training I've received formal and considerable training in, combined with my interest and advocacy for the revival and awareness raising for traditional Chinese archery, am going to try something different but plausible. The Ming Chinese imported hundreds of thousands of swords from Japan and Chinese people then as now do appreciate the beauty and cutting ability of the Japanese sword. I would imagine of the 100,000 of swords received there must have been some number of nobility, military officers, or units who carried a Japanese sword alongside their Turkic styled short siyah bows. So I would incorporate it into my upcoming Ming Chinese hanfu outfit!

pictures of the whole sword and hamon are mandatory, or else how do we know it's not just a tsuba & tsuka glued to an empty saya. :) the blade is it's soul.

You folks sure do a good job of making ole bawanna loop dumb.

I'm gonna have to google mekugi pins. Maybe I got some laying around.
