Hey everyone, its that time again, I'm looking for a new edc knife. It's going to be primarily an office-carry knife used for light food prep, opening mail and packages, etc. In other words, a basic edc knife. I'm not looking for anything hard use or tactical; on the contrary, the thinner, lighter, and slimmer, the better, with a blade between 2 and 3 inches. That size works best for the tasks I typically do. I'd like it to have a thin blade and high grind for better slicing ability, and I'd like the steel to be a cut above the basic aus8 level. Im open to traditional or modern, a pocket clip is not required. My budget tops out at $150 or so. So, fellow knuts, what's your pick for a small, disappears-in-your-pocket lightsaber under $150?

You may want to check out the "what traditional knife did you carry today" thread over in traditionals, so many sweet GEC and such

Sounds like you need a wharncliffe trapper. Within that budget, you should have a wide range of selection between handle materials and manufacturers. Happy hunting.

Opinel or Gayle Bradley Air. The latter is phenomenal--smoother than heck, perfectly constructed, and with a wickedly sharp CPM-M4 wharncliffe blade. It's also very very light (ti liners and liner lock).

I was never one for the slip joint knife but for whatever reason I've taken a liking to them in the past year. I have a case stockman in G-10 and a GEC bull nose in Orange delrin ( more commonly known as a sod buster).

I really like the sodbuster pattern for the simplisty but the stockman is smaller and is a bit more un-noticed in the pocket. Too many choices....

Spyderco Centofante 3 or Des Horn. Bradley Air is great--I have one, too--but I wouldn't want to do food prep w/ it. Messy, messy, messy. Just sayin'.

P.S. Traditionals are really cool, but I think you get a Hell of a lot more knife for your money with a Spydie.

You might consider an Al Mar Ultralight Falcon. I know it uses AUS8, but the heat treat and edge geometry put it a definite cut above. Very efficient slicer and extremely lightweight. Al Mar also has some of the best fit and finish around.

Nothing will ever out slice an Opinel. Get a carbon steel one and it also holds an edge half decently.

Sounds like a kershaw leek is what you seek!

Get a Ritter it ain't a quitter! :p

I have an Opinel #6 with walnut handle. Weighs next to nothing, short sharp blade. Unobtrusive elegance. :)

How about a SVORD mini peasant for 10 bucks and you can use what is left over in your budget to get it mod'ed with what ever handle material you want. A pic of my mod'ed mini peasant with g10,far right.
