Recommend a light edc slicing machine?

I'd get a stainless and carbon Opinel, and then use what's left to purchase a Composite ( 13c26/D2, Kershaw steel) Kershaw Leek. All are grand, but distinctly different slicers, that'll stand up to a great deal of use. The composite blade on the Leek is a real treat, and very cool aesthetically. It's also got excellent edge retention and will take a good edge.

I would say Spyderco Chaparral or Air - Both are excellent knives.
Caly 3 in CF/ZDP-189 is worth a look too.

Agree on the caly 3...... Used to be my office carry until i got my techno and sage 2. Now those will be kicked out by the small sebenza 21 :D

Serious though---- caly 3 is a great slicer and zdp189 holds an edge for a long time. Even check out the caly 3 super blue. Another great steel.

Sounds like you need a Leek.

You can go from flashy:

To "midtech":

Or anywhere in between:

Leek, Skyline, Delica FFG, Ritter Mini-Grip. For $150, you might even be able to pick up the first 3 of that lot.

CRKT ripple , the stainless steel blue version . This has got to be the most underrated knife ever , perfect for office carry wont scare the ladies . You should be able to find it for well under a hundred .

I have to agree with Isipid Moniker about the Al Mar UltraLights. Don't let the AUS 8 steel fool you. Al Mar does a great job with the heat treat and temper. They are light and thin, I have the two smaller ones and they both "disappear" in my pocket.

For slicers you want thin blades.

RE: Opinel's and Spydie Centofante's

Never had the pleasure of owning an Opinel, though that may change soon. You can't argue with generations of users though.

However, I briefly held a friend's Centofante Drop Point once and man did that thing slice! An elegant, gentleman's user. Personally, aside from the thinness of the blade, for a dedicated slicer, the nail nicks and hole openers rule (may include flippers). No thumb studs or disks to get in the way.

I imagine the wharncliffe version might gain an additional edge as a pure slicer -

I'd like it to have a thin blade and high grind for better slicing ability, and I'd like the steel to be a cut above the basic aus8 level.

Spyderco Caly 3. This is the Super Blue flavor which is hard to come by, but you can get it in VG-10 and ZDP-189/carbon fiber.

I'll add to the list of Opinel recommendations. Slices great, insanely light weight for their size, unexpectedly sturdy, and universally accepted by non knife carrying people almost as well as a SAK. Add to the cost of just bit over 10 bucks, and you have a grate little knife for the cost of a few cold beers. Every knife nut needs t own an Opinel once in his life. It will add a perspective that you've never seen before.

If you don't own an Opinel...get one! They have a slight convex grind and take a wicked sharp edge.

You can't beat an Opinel for slicing. Likewise SAKs and many traditionals slice great. On modern folders I'd echo the Spyderco Centofante recommendations. Slices like a light saber.

Sounds like you need a Leek.

Man, you've got enough leeks to sink the Titanic.

Hey everyone, its that time again, I'm looking for a new edc knife. It's going to be primarily an office-carry knife used for light food prep, opening mail and packages, etc. In other words, a basic edc knife. I'm not looking for anything hard use or tactical; on the contrary, the thinner, lighter, and slimmer, the better, with a blade between 2 and 3 inches. That size works best for the tasks I typically do. I'd like it to have a thin blade and high grind for better slicing ability, and I'd like the steel to be a cut above the basic aus8 level. Im open to traditional or modern, a pocket clip is not required. My budget tops out at $150 or so. So, fellow knuts, what's your pick for a small, disappears-in-your-pocket lightsaber under $150?
