I had forgotten about Moras until talking with a buddy tonight. He's looking to get one.....and now we're both looking to get one... or two. :) Honestly, I don't know much about Moras so I need some help here. I'll be using it for camping along with my BM Mini-Rukus. FWIW, I do have big hands. The Mini Rukus fits my hand perfectly. So, what would you suggest? Thanks.

CHeck out Ragweedforge.com to see a wide selection of Mora knives.

Since you already own a rather expensive knife, how much are you willing to spend?

There is a 70 dollar Mora that I have been wanting to buy for a while. It has a larger handle, a leather sheath, and a laminated steel blade. Most of the other Mora knives wont cost over 30, over 20, or even over 10 bucks.

Some of the wooden ones come in laminated steel. I would recomend those first off.

Secondly there are the carbon steel varieties. Mora makes a whole lot of their knives in this and it rocks.

Finaly, if you value more rust resistance Mora has some stainless steel knives. They are great too. They loose an edge a little faster than the carbon steel blades.

I like the ones with the rubber no-slip grips a lot.

I have experience on clipper and 2000 models. They don't have huge differences in performance.
I like the 2000 a bit more: it has symmetrical handle so it's better for bushcrafting and "fattier" belly (also better for bushcrafting). Mora 2000 has also better and safer sheath in my opinion.

My personal favorite is a MIKI if you can find one.

740, 760, 780 (I have those).

510, 545 (if you can find one), 840, 860, S-1, S-2 are all on my "want to buy" list.

Its all good with Mora. The Mora 2000 is a bit larger with a grippy rubber handle.

Here is a good place to buy a Mora

I hate the way the 2000 looks but if it works...... Is there any Mora with a blade thicker than 0.098"

I believe its a near perfect design for a utility knife application. The Mora is plenty stiff enough for what its designed to do (cut)

The Cold Steel Finn Bear is an option also but the edge profile is different.

Here are links to pictures of my favorites: Yes there are some Moras thicker than .098"

This one has a laminated steel blade about 4 1/4" long, 3/4' wide, and .102" thick. The handle is 4 1/4" long. http://www.ragweedforge.com/sl-2.jpg

Here is that 70 dollar one that I mentioned earlier. It has a thickness of .115" The blade length is 4 3/8" and the handle is 4 1/2" http://www.ragweedforge.com/311.jpg

Here is my all time favorite for value and comfort, they come in a range if sizes and you can choose high carbon steel or stainless: http://www.ragweedforge.com/700s.jpg

Thank you all for replying. Well, it's hard to decide without actually holding a knife. I swore I never buy another knife without handling it but it appears I've whittled down my choices to:

Craftline Allround stainless 11201: 3-7/8" Sandvik stainless
Craftsman Triflex 780: 4-1/8" carbon steel
Mora 746: 4" Sandvik stainless
Mora 2000: 4.5" Sandvik stainless

Any suggestions?

I have 840, 860 and 861 Clippers, a 510 and 545, and a Craftline Allround.

The Craftline Allround is my pick of the bunch. It is a superb knife for the money and sees more use than any of my more expensive production fixed blades (Fallkniven, Benchmade, Spyderco etc)

Hey, i personally like the Clipper model with the rubber and plastic grips. I recently returned from a month in Sweden so i purchased quite a few moras. It was hard not to when there everywhere for around 3 bucks US. Here is what i came home with after a month. I admit it, i have a slight problem.

Nice axe.

I think a few Mora knives are a must have.

Also check out the SVORD Peasant knife its inexpensive and great.

The French Opinel is another must have.

I have used all of those accept for the 2000.

You really cant miss. I Personaly like the grip on the 746 more than the other models, it has a good sticky-grip to it. The 780 is great too, but the sheath it comes with is the worst of the bunch IMO -I like a deep cary sheath.

The Mora 2000 seems a little overpriced when compared to the other Mora knives, which is why I dont have one. The most significant difference is that the Mora 2000 has a deeper tang, making it a little stronger. It does have that interesting grind as well.

I would go with the 711 model in carbon steel over the 746 in stainless. The craftline would be an equal choice, I just like the other grip better, on the 711/746

Thank you guys! After reading all your replies and getting as much other info as I could I pulled the trigger. I've got a Craftline Allround stainless 11201 and a 780 on order from Bensbackwoods.com. Yeah baby, come to Papa! :D
