Hey guys! I love bigger-than-necessary folders, like the ZT 0200 and Benchmade Adamas. I'm looking to expand my tastes in huge folders, but my knife purchase decision making skills are awful. So, I want to talk to you guys!

Rules:

Max blade length of 4"
No autos

That's really it. It also doesn't have to be humongous. Just has to be built like a tank.

So fire away!

Strider SMF. Period. Go get one.

(Don't listen to all the personal BS from the people that don't like Mick Strider.)

The SMF is truly superior. THE tank knife.

Yeah, I hear people complain all the time about Brous, Microtech and Strider simply because of the owners. If they make a quality knife, I'll buy it regardless of the guy. I also hear fantastic things of Strider's warranty.

It's truly an amazing knife, just a beast. I actually have a lightly used SMF I was considering selling. Just FYI. Happy knife hunting!

demko AD-10 folder....3 1/2" cutting edge, $500 advertised price. Check it out.
Some awfully good people here on BF have said it's about the best thing out there.
6.7 oz, I think, so too heavy for me. Blade width 0.190"-0.200" puts it right there with Strider SMF.
Oh yeah,... :) the Strider SMF. I've had quite a few of these; great folders.

The Buck Csar-T is absurdly overbuilt. I can only open and close it a few times in a row without discomfort. Very stiff liner.

Things I was looking at:

BM Contego
TSF Beast
Strider
Spyderco Military

Any advice out of those? User feedback is appreciated!

You should definitely look into the Grayman Dua. Opens and closes buttery smooth, doesn't wiggle an iota in any direction once open. I'm still dumbfounded everytime I use it how solidly it locks up. Good luck!

Southern Grind Bad Monkey, this knife is awesome. Built for hard use with cf scales and Ti liners, it is a 4" blade with the handle being 5.25" I believe. Very ergonomic, also has the wave feature. Only down side for some people is the steel, it is 14c28n. This really doesn't bother me though, I can put a wicked edge on it very quickly and it holds for a good period of time. Also for the size of the knife it is incredibly light due to the cf and titanium.

As far as the military I have the titanium version and it is probably the most ergonomic knife I have ever used, incredibly sharp and overall a great knife, but there is something about the blade that just feels kind of weak. I wouldn't carry mine as a EDC or hard use. I am like you and really like larger heavy duty knives, but this one just doesn't do it for me. Again just an opinion.

Also Emerson's are great hard use knives. They are built tough and designed for hard every day use and feel like tanks.

Lastly the zt0801. I have this knife and it is heavy duty. Looks like it could take a beating and is build like a tank. Though I cannot say for certain how it acts with use because I have never used mine and will probably trade it or sell it soon to make room for other knives I would rather have.

Cheers

I also have a TSF Beast. Very nice knife but contrary to the name, it's actually quite small. Spyderco knives are made with too thin of blade stock to be considered tanks, IMO. Contego isn't bad, not in the same weight class however.

P.S: lots of nice knives being mentioned but look at the one on everyone's list!

Spyderco TUFF?

I've owned a couple Striders and in my personal opinion, for the money there are better knives
out there.

The Umnumzaan comes to mind if you are willing to cough up the cash. (Same goes Strider but they don't have the attention to detail.)

There are cheaper folders out there that are rock solid but cost less, the
ZT 661 for instance.

Lots of great suggestions listed above for sure. I just got my son a Spyderco Vallotton. It is a surprisingly OVERBUILT classy folder. I was blown away at how STOUT this thing is.

I love the TUFF. But a huge thing with me is smooth actions on folders, and I've heard some negative things about the TUFF's action. Is this true?

Let's play a game. It's called spot the Strider SMF.
